They don't always include the word "catastrophic" in the name of the plan. Here's an outline of what they generally include.I would think a high deductible plan with low premiums would work for someone that doesn't think they "need" health insurance. Not familiar with plans that are actually called "catastrophic."

It's not uncommon for them to not cover routine office visits, immunizations, prescription drugs and annual check ups - things that would go toward your deductible in a regular high deductible plan.
They aren't a bad choice for healthy, young people without children. For someone with a family, paying OOP for the kids' annual check ups and shots can get pretty pricey!
