My DH just had a hip replacement due to an accident (4 weeks ago). I think we should rent an ECV for our trip which is in 60 days (April). What are some good companies? How far in advance do we need to do this? Cost? My DH is resistant right now so if I don't rent it before we leave can I get one during our trip if it becomes obvious he will need one?

The disABILITIES section of this forum have a couple of threads on this very same issue.

Rented from gold mobility last month. They were great! They dropped off and picked up at the resort and I rented it a few days before the trip. Their website gives an automatic quote.

The only vendor allowed to utilized Bell Services at WDW resorts is ScooterBug. Other vendors will arrange to meet you in-person.

We rented from the parks for my dad. He only needed it for long park days, not the resort, didn’t want to deal with it on the buses, and we didn’t know if he would be resistant (early dementia at that point).

I'm using scooterbug for the main reason that I do not want to have to meet them at the resort. Some of the others have only 2 drop off times and you have to be available at that time. I looked at a few options, but they didn't meet my schedule. I leave early in the morning typically and that would mean I would have to drop off my ECV the night before and go without until morning. Not gonna work in AKL where it's a mile walk to get from the room to the lobby.

I am irked that Disney signed an exclusive deal with scooterbug, and I may send a scathing letter to them at some point about it. But in the meantime, that's who I am using.

Agreed! We have rented from Scooterbug in the past, and were not really pleased with their product. We used Gold our past trip, and it was like night and day. Their scooters were in pristine condition, and customer service was excellent.
Unfortunately you do have to meet them, but if you can it’s totally worth it.

Same here. I would not use scooter bug because of all the bad reports on their equipment. It’s like they won’t bother since they know folks will use them

it was very easy to meet gold mobility. Their times are very flexible

I used Scooterbug for the first time about a month ago. And it's the last time I'll use Scooterbug. They gave me a seemingly old model, with batteries that were having problems holding a charge. Then they swapped it out with a newer model, but the seat wouldn't fold, so I struggled a lot getting it apart for transport.

I've used Buena vista, walker mobility, and lately scooterbug, because of the Disney resort limitation.

like others, I've had a few problems with scooterbug. Once they didn't include a charger, another time I could only get the jumbo size which was difficult for my mom to handle on the bus. If you do go with scooterbug, I'd go ahead and book now, then you can always cancel.

I'd say that we need the scooter outside the park because of the long walks to whatever transportation method needed, so just a day rental in the park isn't an option.

Thanks for the help. I guess I didn't think of the Disability board because I don't think of DH as disabled. Appreciate all the input.

My parents always used Buena Vista Scooters . They were very happy with them . They drop it off at bell services . Don’t forget to bring a shower cap or poncho to put over the control panel when it rains or you think it is going to and you are leaving it outside .

They can’t drop with bell services any more. Only scooterbug can. You have to be there

After reading reviews on the DISabilities forum we went with Gold Mobility last year and were very impressed. We will be using them again this year. They were very accommodating about meeting times - for both drop off and pick up.
