We are planning on renting a vacation home. My question is, where would be the best location. We have possibilities all over the Disney area, but want to be sure we are in a safe, family type area. We are leaning towards Davenport, Clermont, or the border of Kissimmee and Orlando. The distance from Disney is not really an issue. As a matter of fact the farther away from the hustle and bustle, the better. We would also like to be near water as my husband and brothers-in-law are fishing addicts! Thanks for your imput!

Actually you can be very close to Disney and not feel ANY of the hustle and bustle at all. I stayed recently in the Rolling Hills subdivision and I felt MILES away from the hassle!

There are lots of subdivisions on and near lakes. You can check www.vrbo.com or do a search on this site for "vacation homes" and you will find a wealth of information.

I agree with robin! We just stayed a week in Rolling Hills @ Formosa Gardens. It is quiet and so close to Disney mickey could wipe your nose if you sneezed! We found our home through www.vrbo.com like robin! We rented a 6br 4 bt on Star Lake View Drive and it took us maybe 5 minutes to get to Disney and park. It was the two miles they said it would be. Good Luck

Hi..If you wanted "gated", closest will be Formosa Gardens, Emerald Island, and then Wyndam Palms, in that order, I believe...I don't think Rolling Hills is gated....all of these communities are South of Disney off Formosa Gardens BLVD or Lake Wilson RD....very nice locations for access to Disney, Shopping and restaurants...vrbo is direct from the owners and there are literally hundreds of management and rental companies, most are quite good, with lots of bargains around right now...I would pick a location and search in that developement.....I really like Emerald Island...beautiful clubhouse, pool, game room, and really in a peaceful tranquil setting just 2 miles to Disney....It is amazing how quiet it gets just one mile off of busy 192!!...enjoy...Ted

Emerald Island is really very nice! My husband and I drove around most of the developments, it is our favorite. Try this web site:

Happy Vacation!

Sunset Lakes is also next door to Emerald Island. It is gated and has none of the building work going on that the other developments have. SLakes also has a reasonable size community pool which is nice to use if you want a proper swim.

The homes here are all in good positions either overlooking one of the two lakes or the conservation area. www.sunsetlakevillas.com is the community website .... it is under construction though.

Hi Fleisure! Funny you should reply to my post, I just arranged for two homes with your managment company! They are not in Sunset lakes though, they are in Cumbrian Lakes. Is there anything you can tell me about that development? From what I know now, it is a little farther out and a gated community. Can you fish there?:sunny:

Hi ya !
Take a look at www.cumbrianlakes.com for more info on this development. There are three ponds/lakes, etc and yes there are fish in them along with a couple of alligators ! Just make sure you don't feed the gators when fishing !

Cumbrian is a new gated community and is pefectly positioned for getting to the parks, shops, restaurants, etc. There are a number of ways to get into Disney from this end of town (East of Disney, 4 miles down Poinciana Blvd) and this makes fighting the traffic a little easier than from the west end of town. You will be at Disney in about 8 - 10 minutes.

Look forward to seeing you. :)

I second Emerald Island, we got back recently from there, it is with 2 other developments (Formossa Gardens and Oak Island?) very well placed, probably as perfect as you can get.
The building work is so far away from where you will stay as to be irrelevant and the place is picture book appearance, highly recommended.
