 We have been to Disney several times but never used the DP. Needless to say we always ate counter service. So this year we are going with the DP. I don't think I need DDP, kids are 5 and 8 and not big eaters. SO question is what resturants do I HAVE TO eat at?? I have no idea about any of them....DS5 loves anything under the ocean and DD8 loves animals. What resturants do you put on your list? Help!! I want to choose resturants that will knock our socks off!!

I was wondering the same thing myself. I am confused by the whole thing and do not know which restaurants adhere to the DDP and which one's only give you a 20% discount. I would really love the help also!! ;)

For your DS - Try Coral Reef. A boy who loves the ocean will certainly appreciate eating in a restaurant with an aquarium.

For your DD, I can't think of any animal themed restaurants other then Rainforest Cafe, which isn't part of the DDP.

Concerning Knock Their Socks Off, you will get hundreds of opinions on each restaurant. For every person who loves Sci-Fi there is another person who hates it. The same is true of every restaurant in Disney. (Other than Victoria & Albert's - which sounds like it'll be a non-issue for you this trip)

Some suggestions, no so much for food but for ambiance and fun for the kids:

'Ohana's breakfast - Lilo, Stitch, Mickey and Pluto
Chef Mickey's Breakfast or Dinner - Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Pluto
Liberty Tree Tavern Dinner - Minnie, Chip and Dale and Goofy
Crystal Palace Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner - Winne the Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore
1900 Park Fare - Mary Poppins, Alice and Friends in the morning
1900 Park Fare - Cinderella and Friends for dinner

Princesses can be found at CRT in the castle for breakfast and lunch (two credits and not a very good value on the DDP) and also at Akershus in Epcot (I believe all day here). Epcot is a much better value for your credits because as of now it's just one credit to eat there.

Garden Grill is also a character buffet, but one that is receiving more mixed reviews lately.

For regular TS, where you're just looking for good food, your best bet is to look at the menus and see what sounds good to you. Once you have a few ideas, and if you can't choose between them, you may want to come back and post "Between X and Y, which would you choose and why"

Good luck and happy planning!

List of the Disney Dining Plan restaurants can be found here http://allearsnet.com/pl/packages08a.htm

For the DDE card, which is the only card that I know of that will give you a 20% Discount, information on that can be found here. http://allearsnet.com/din/dde.htm

Now it's true that the DDE card charges an auto gratuity of 18% but if service is bad you can have that adjusted with a manager, so the 18% gratuity is really only a loss for those who weren't going to tip in the first place. :goodvibes

So would dinner at Akershus be included as a TS meal requiring only one credit instead of two? When looking at Akershus's Princess dinner, it says DDE 20%. I am so confused!

DDP and DDE are two completely different things. DDP is the dining plan that uses CS and TS credits.

DDE is the Disney Dining Experience and it only applies to AP or Florida residents. It is a special card that eligible people can purchase and is good for one year and 20% off of food and drinks at select restaurants in WDW. If you are only interested in adding the dining plan on to an upcoming trip, the DDE is of no significance to you and you should just ignore it when you see it.

Hope that clears it up a little for you. :goodvibes Good luck with your planning!

Thank you so much!! I did not know that there were two different dining "options." You really helped me out with that! :worship:

Alright, so our ADR at Akershus for the Storybook dining only would require us to use one TS credit, correct?
