Where to go for dinner? Only there for 2 nights...

We (DH & I) only have 2 dinners to plan. We're making a quick stop in WDW before our anniversary trip to Jamaica. We're staying 2 nights at AKL. I've got us booked at Artist's Point (on our actual anniversary), after a day at Epcot. Now I just have to figure out the first night. We'll arrive at the resort at about lunch time and hubby just wants to relax. Should we just book Jiko for dinner? (So that we don't really have to go anywhere that first day?) I've been doing a lot of reading about the buses and am wondering if it's worth it to go somewhere else for meal. We only have a 1 day park ticket, so parks aren't available the first day. How hard is it really to go from AKL to...say, the Poly? (Or anywhere else, really. It seems like everything is far away from AKL.)

We go down to WDW a lot and the best steak we have had was at Kona's this last November 2010 so when we go in September going to try the breakfast there as well is in the POLYBoma's in AKL is good for breakfast or dinner and have a lot to chose from and breakfast they make to order omlettes

Disney is really broken into a few main areas. So if you want to go to the Polynesian, Contemporary, or grand Floridian, you can take a bus from your hotel to the magic kingdom, then from there, you can take the monorail to those hotels, or even a boat, or bus.

You can also take a bus to the transportation center, then a monrail to the polynesian. If you are at the magic kingdom or transportation center, you can get anywhere.

I would go to Jiko. I love staying at AKL and just relaxing at the resort. Jiko is a very nice place to eat. I love the soups there and the appetizer menu is always interesting.

Also I would take a cab back to AKL from Artist Point. That's a pain of a bus ride IMO and really takes away from the anniversary vibe.

I would have to argue that the filet at Jiko is a strong contender. Love that red wine reduction sauce. I can't remember what I had at Kona, the last time, but it was really good as well whatever I had.

Relax/swim at the resort in the afternoon, but how about booking dinner on the Boardwalk? Flying Fish or Kouzzina? Or across the lake at Captain's Grill or Yachtsman (quieter/more 'adult' restaurants, IMHO) then take the boat back to the Boardwalk for the evening? Lots of entertainment options without using a park ticket.

To get there I'd take a bus from your resort to AK and then transfer to the bus for Boardwalk or YK. Coming back you'll be leaving after AK is closed. If it's still early, take the boat from BW to DHS then the bus from DHS to AKL. If it's really late, BW runs late busses directly to all resorts.

What about the California Grille at the Contemporary? It overlooks Magic Kingdom and if you make your reservation late enough you will be able to watch the fireworks.. They dim the lights and play music..

Or something completely out of the box and go and eat at one of the great restaurants at the Swan/Dolphin.. it is a great area to walk around and alot of the restaurants there are more expensive/higher quality/more adult restaurants..
