We go to Disney World almost every year and almost never plan, so this is new for me. This summer we arrive on DD 14th birthday. She wants to celebrate at least part of her birthday in a park. This is also a change for us because usually was just relax in the room and resort the first day. We want to have celebration dinner that night in a park. Which restaurant would you suggest for a great birthday dinner for a very picky eater? In addition I eat vegetarian, so I need to make sure there is an option for me.

The restaurants will work with you for your dietary preferences. This menu will also be helpful. http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menus.htm
I have heard that restaurants at Animal Kingdom offer vegetarian meals on their menu. I rarely eat meat and never had a problem with any of the menus.

My children are smaller but had great birthday celebrations. For my son's 4th birthday we had breakfast at Crystal Palace and rode the monorail to the Grand Floridian for the character dinner at 1900 Park Fare. It was a nice setting, everyone enjoyed the atmosphere and they made a wonderful Mickey birthday cake with a cream filling and ganache topping... it was YUMMY.

We celebrated our daughter's 1st birthday at Cinderella's Royal Table for breakfast. It, too, was great.

I would ask your daughter to pick a theme park and go over a list of restaurants with her, restaurants in the park or surrounding resorts. If she would like character dining this link will help:

Chef Mickey's has the best reputation for celebrating birthday in Birnbaum's book. I would purchase a 2007 copy, talk with a Disney travel specialist and do research online. We surprised DH and celebrated birthday at Chef mickey's last May. That is is accessible by monorail from the MK and Epcot.

Whichever restaurant you choose be sure to mention at time of reservation, and upon arrival, that you are celebrating a birthday, and get a birthday pin from the park.

I love celebrating birthdays at Disney. Everyone feels special when they get the extra attention, birthday cards/certificates from the characters and cast members notice the birthday pins... it makes a wonderful birthday memory.

Also, the resort may do something as well. It's worth a mention. I decorated our room since the birthdays were during our stays.

Have a wonderful time planning and be sure to throw in a few unexpected surprises if you can!

Thanks for your responses. We will decide which park to visit based on the restaurant we pick. We are not planning on going to a non park restaurant, but if that is the best option we may make that choice.

My daughter thinks the character meals are for little kids. Do you think she is correct?

Thanks,
Susan

My friends and I celebrated our high school graduation with a trip to WDW. We all loved our character breakfast at Crystal Palace. We also celebrated my friends birthday therre and she loved it. Primetime Cafe in MGM is alot of fun for birthdays. If she likes alot of attention she would love that ( that is one of the places I am going to celebrate my 19th biirthday this January).

I'm a vegetarian and I love the choices at Rainforest Cafe (outsude the entrance of Animal Kingdom) and they had a delicious birthday brownie, and they bring out to you while clapping and singing.

It's your daughter's choice as to the character dining. I see adults without children dining at character meals, especially Cinderella's Royal Table and Crystal Palace.
Personally, I think MGM would offer the most for a teen. My sons aren't teens but love Rockin' Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, Star Tours. Fantasmic was great also.
MGM has great dining options like Mama Melrose, Sci-Fi or Brown Derby which are not childish.

Animal Kingdom would be a consideration as well. Mt Everest was a favorite for us. There is a Rainforest Cafe there for fun dining, not childish.

Coral Reef is an option if she chooses Epcot.

Another suggestion would be to find out if a park has an extra magic hour in the evening. Animal Kingdom closes the earliest along Future World at Epcot.

Utilize the "My Disney Vacation" on their web page:

It offers suggestions depending on the age of your children. It's a useful tool.

Good luck
