Where to get no fee Visa or Amex gift card to use for curbside checkin, gas, etc?

We're hesitant to use our regular debit or credit cards at airport or Florida as they have been compromised on past trips. We'd like to purchase a prepaid Visa or Amex card to use for curbside checkin at airport, gas for the rental car, etc. Is there a way to purchase one without any kind of fee to activate or use? I think we had gotten one from our bank in the past, but they no longer offer it. We do have a BJs membership, if they sell them.

I haven't been able to find any. I've found some of the lowest activation fees to be visa gift cards I get from a local pharmacy chain if that helps. I think they even sell gas gift cards that may not have a fee on them.. Have you looked at your local cvs/duane reade, etc?

I know our AAA office here in NC is offering no fee on Visa Money cards through the end of this month. Maybe call your local office and ask?

Staples often has rebates that exceed the fee on Visa or Master Card gift cards. Check the weekly ad. -- Suzanne

Open a separate checking/savings account with just a small amount over the amount you want to spend for your trip and use the debit cards for that account for your trip. Close the account when your trip is over.

Or check around in your area and see if any other banks offer free visa gift cards with an account. Open a savings account or short term CD account at that bank and fund it with a small amount of money - just enough that you won't pay fees for the account or the visa card.
