Hi all,

We are flying to DL and staying at the GCH (no car) in January so I'm anticipating having to eat most meals at DLR. After losing 20 pounds on Jenny Craig I'm not thrilled about the food selection I'm seeing on the menus. Any suggestions for healthy eating? Where can I find the nutritional content for menu items?

Thanks for your help!! :confused3

Welcome to the boards. I have never seen a listing of fat content but there are healthy eating choices everywhere. Just need to make some healthy decisions. Good luck on your search.

Most restaurants will give you a list of ingredients if you ask, but not calories or other nutritional information, at least not that I'm aware of.

Just make substitutions to keep things healthier. Obviously avoid fried foods, stick with sauces and dressings on the side, drink plenty of water, etc. One great thing about Disneyland is that you will be walking A LOT! As in, MILES AND MILES over the course of your stay. I usually use that as justification to splurge a little, since I'm pretty conscious of my caloric intake normally.

Congratualtions on your weight loss!

I started a couple threads where I asked basically this same question. Let me see if I can bump them up for you.

I do know when we go next week I'll be having dinner at Rancho del Zocalo. They have 1/2 a chicken marinated in citrus and instead of beans/rice you can do veggies instead.

Other good suggestions were the salmon salad at Harbour Galley (I may head there for lunch), and the fresh veggie or fruit trays with the dipping sauces you can find around the part (Fantasyland comes to mind).

Have a great time!

Great weight loss!!! Congrats! :)
There are salads just about everywhere in the parks, if you get dressing on the side you'll be good. Or sandwiches, just make good choices and you'll do fine. :) And as someone said, remember that you'll be walking everywhere so that will help burn fat off. :)

I believe you can get nutritional info at town hall. All restaurants in the park should also have the information available, though you may have to ask. But it'd be easier to get the nutritional info booklet from town hall and plan meals before you get to the counter rather than rush through the info. You may also want to call and ask if they can send you the info in advance. 714-781-7290 is the park info line.

I'm pretty sure restaurants in CA are required to provide nutritional information on request. Not just ingredients or lists of potential allergens.

That brings up a good point. Are there signs at the dining location noting that the information is available in town hall? Similar to information on the rides that can be found in town hall?

I have lost 70 pounds myself, and I have a BodyBugg system that tells me how many calories I burn during the day. On a normal day at a Disney park, especially Disneyland, I burn an average of 4,000 calories. So what I do, since I'm still losing weight, is I eat a normal breakfast (oatmeal with fruit, a children's order of pancakes with fruit on the side, etc.), for lunch I have fresh fruit from a fruit stand along with some pretzels or almonds, and then I eat a normal, healthy dinner. Doing this, I'm usually able to stay under 2,500 calories and I still lose weight that day!

The Troubadour Tavern (just outside the Princess Fantasy Fair near Small World) has baked potatoes. They have a chicken one and a broccoli one. I am assuming you could get them without the butter and sour cream, which would make for a healthy meal.

Congrats on your weight loss! From what I have read online on their website, Disney does not have nutritional information available. They can tell you the ingredients, but not the calories, fat etc. In California, the only restaurants that have to have nutritional information available are those that have more than 20 locations in the state.

That said, there are lots of healthy options. La Brea Bakery (in DTD) has amazing granola, and they actually offer it in a bowl with fruit and a container of light milk. Tortilla Joe's (also in DTD) has an amazing tortilla soup that would be great for someone watching their calories. Taste Pilot's Grill at DCA has a salad that you can get without the cheese. At French Market you can order the citrus chicken on the kids menu and get a smaller serving. Actually, I order off the kids menu a lot at DL. I've done it at the mexican place in DCA(the name escapes me right now) and got a small bean burrito, a little rice and some grapes.

If you wear your pedometer, it will reassure you that you are getting plenty of exercise on your trip. Oh, and be sure to do the canoes to get an upper body workout!

Have a great trip and keep up the great work.

The Mexican place in DCA is Rancho Cucamonga. :) You can do the same at the Mexican place in DL, that one is Rancho Del Zocalo. :) Just to help. Also Pizza Port has a ton of yummy salads, get the balsamic dressing on the side and you'll have a delish meal.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm going to try calling Disneyland to see if I can get a copy of the nutritional info. If not, I'll just be very careful!

<Where to find calories/fat etc for menu items?>
I think they're found on your waistline shortly after returning from your trip ;-).

I know -- very cheeseball. But I couldn't resist.

Just FYI - when I went in February, I had to be on a VERY low-fat (less than 15g a day) diet. Since there was no nutritional information available, I thought it was going to be horrible. I found that the sit down restaurants were fantastic! The server would grab the chef who would talk to me about my likes/needs and would whip something up. The best I found for this was Storyteller's Cafe at the GCH. So that's an option, too.

Good luck, and congrats on the weight loss!

I have heard (from a VERY reliable source) that the gluten free pizza dough at Redd Rockett's Pizza Port is significantly lower in calories that the regular dough. You might want to look into other gluten free options, as this might be true for them also.

I just lost 40 pounds (and still losing)! I've found that the best way to survive at restaurants is to order food in its most natural form. Plain chicken with rice and vegetables is better than shredded chicken mixed with cheese and sauce. When you start getting into dishes like cassaroles, burritos, etc., it's too hard to know exactly what's in it. There could easily be added butter or oil or hidden little extras that throw you off track. I always start dinner with a salad with the dressing on the side. I prefer using regular dressing since low-fat, low-cal restaurant dressing can be gross. I just use a tiny bit of regular dressing, probably less than 1/2 a teaspoon for my whole salad and it's just fine.

If you can't find the nutritional info., just stick with plain foods and you'll be fine!:)

When we go and eat at Cafe Orleans, I order a la carte : cajun salmon, red potatoes and asparagus. a side salad w/ dressing on the side.
also, you can find packages of trail mix and also fresh fruit and pineapple spears and these massive pickles.
Also , at the little wharf shack where they park the Columbia, they have the BEST imho, salmon salad. Delish!
I always carry around a big bottle of water. Sometimes you can find sugar free chocolate covered pretzels, but they can cause tummy troubles so, eat those with my warning. I usually just bring in my own organic sugar chocolate bars from trader joe's. If I have to have something sweet, it is usually the fruit crepe at Cafe Orleans. You know what will work for you. You are going to have a great time!!! :)
