Where to eat at Hollywood Studios?

DBF and I are planning our April 2010 trip and trying to make as many ADRs as we can. We've booked Hollywood and Vine for our HS day, but after reading reviews, and finding out it's a buffet :sad1:, I think I would like to book something else instead.

We did the Brown Derby last time, and we don't want to do it again. What else is there for a decent sit-down meal at HS?

Hi we love SCI FI. You get to sit in the cars and watch all the cute old movie clips:happytv:. Plus they do very good burgers and milkshakes. Plus the onion rings are really good.

We ate at Sci-Fi. It was a lot of fun! I had the pasta dish, yummy! In 07 we ate at Mama Melroses, I really liked the food, but it took FOREVER! I think we were there an hour and 45 min. And that was in Oct. A lot of people recommend 50s PTC, we aren't into the menu, but it looks like fun!

Nothing as far as CS goes

For TS we really enjoy 50's Prime Time, lunch at Sci Fi and we just ate dinner at Mama Melrose last month and we loved it

We love Sci-Fi and 50's Prime Time!!! They are 2 of the best themed restaurants at WDW. The food is not fancy but it is yummy!!! I would be hard pressed to choose only one of them to visit on our next trip!:thumbsup2

Just an FYI-
We ate at H & V for Thanksgiving dinner this past year. It was SOOOOO good and the waitress was excellent!! (we were a party of 12). The food was hot, plentiful and tasted great. Everything was clean and the service was one of the best we had that week.

I don't know why everyone seems to dislike this place. Don't know if it was beefed up a bit due to thanksgiving or what, but we loved it and would go back again. :thumbsup2

The problem with Sci Fi is that as a party of two, you will more than likely be seated in the 3rd bench seat of the car, behind strangers. Anytime we have been a party of two, we have been seated in the back and for me, there is something unnerving about staring at the back of strangers' heads while I eat. When we are a party of 4, we are always seated in the front 2 bench seats with "hitchhikers" in the back.

I would pick 50's PTC as a party of two. The atmosphere is not as unique as Sci Fi but the food is better and you'll have your own table.

I agree! We were there the week after T'giving and had a WONDERFUL meal. We all left stuffed!! My DH & MIL were both raving about it & I told them how H&V always gets panned as a horrible dinner. We all really liked it :confused3 There was plenty for the kids, too.

Brown Derby is our favorite. However, if you are looking for something different then I would vote for the SCI FI Drive In. Very entertaining. Also, a little louder so that covers the noise our kids make.

I also loved 50s Prime Time. I had the chicken pot pie (lunch) and it tasted so fresh and good.

Personally I love 50s ptc. The fried chicken Is delicious. We're trying mama melrose this year because we need pasta but we're considering going over to epcot instead. I've had he brown derby before and it's nice but expensive. My parents ate at hv and they said the food ws good but overpriced

We loved 50's Prime Time Cafe when we were there a couple of weeks ago! Our waitress was hilarious and the food was delicious! I had the chicken pot pie and a peanut butter milkshake...yummy!

We absolutely loved Sci-Fi on our trip last summer. We also had a good experience at Hollywood and Vine but that was breakfast.

This trip we are trying Mama Melrose and I am very excited!

We're trying 50s Prime Time for lunch for the first time in July. It looks really cute, and I hear good things about the food. We are on the basic DDP but we are paying OOP for this meal since it is so inexpensive anyway!

We haven't ever done a TS at HS before but since we have the dining plan, we are going to do the H&V with the Fantasmic package. We are going the week after Christmas and I've heard the wait for Fantasmic can be 90 minutes. Don't want to waste that much touring time. Hope it's good but then again, we don't have "highbrow" tastes.:rotfl2:

I personally think that the food at DHS is pretty bad for the most part. In fairness, I still have to try the Brown Derby though. All of the CS is bad and without ADR's I'd probably take the boat over to one of the Epcot resorts or just get a Mickey bar.

Was just at HS yesterday at ate at 50's PTC for the first time... and we loved it! It was the only TS we had not tried at HS, and now I wish we hadn't waited so long! The themeing is awesome! Our waiter was a hoot! The food was plentiful and delicious! Would definitely recommend, and we will definitely be making a return visit to 50's PTC!
