Where to buy cheaper clothes for American Girl Doll?

DD 9 decided she wants an AG doll for her b-day. WHen my older dd got one several years ago, I went to a craft store and got her some nice clothes a lot cheaper than the AG website. Are there any other stores that have clothes that fit them or is ebay my only other option?

AC Moore (not sure they have that in PA though) has dolls, clothes and accessories called the Springfield collection or something like that.

They aren't SUPER quality, but basic doll clothes quality and you can use coupons for their stuff. Last week in store they had a special with two outfits and a pair of shoes for $12.

I am interested in getting matching outfits for my daughter and her doll cheap. Anyone have ideas on that too? Does anyone know what size of real baby clothes (if any) will fit the dolls well?

Michaels has added a lot of cute 18" outfits lately - my DD loves them!

Target carries "Our Generation" doll clothing. They are made for their version of "American Girl" dolls. My daughter LOVES them...and much more reasonably priced too!

Sears has girl outfits with matching doll outfit.

Thanks, I will try the craft stores. I really meant to say I bought the clothes at a craft show. But , I do now remember that I got her a fur coat at Michaels.

The Our Generation clothes can be hit and miss...some fit the AG girls and some don't.

Also, the Our Generation shoes do not fit AG dolls. :)

Wal Mart now has their own version of AG dolls and clothing. The quality is much lower, but so is the price. :thumbsup2 They have accessories too - DD got a cute beanbag for $5 or $10.

Kohl's carries these too, I think the line is called Dolly & Me or something like that. I've also seen them at TJ Max & Marshall's.

Real baby clothes won't fit the 18" dolls well, the dolls are a lot skinnier than a real baby.

Does anybody know which brands fit the AG doll for sure? I'd hate to get them and have them not fit.

Any clothes around that would fit a Bitty Baby? I scored one at a yard sale and will be sending it to the Doll Hospital for an eye replacement...LOL...then giving it to DD earlier than expected.

The doll/girl sets at Kohls and Sears are made by Dollie and Me. (www.dollieme.com) We've been very happy with the ones DD has gotten. We do order a size up from regular as they seem to run a little small.

I've bought some things from http://stores.ebay.com/Me-and-My-PRINCESS-Doll-Boutique on ebay and been very happy with those as well. (Got a cute Hanna Andersson-esque dress and legging set there.)

Do check etsy.com, all sorts of sellers there!

Agree that the Target ones are hit or miss. We've had the worst luck with things that have long sleeves. The shoes are definately gross. The accessory sets there are cute though (there's a current bakery set with all sorts of fun little pieces), as is some of the furniture.

I agree with PP's who said check etsy.com. Just ordered cute knit hats and scarves for my nieces. There are so many accessories and outfits available, and lots of matching sets for girls and their dolls. I also saw matching Christmas nightgowns for girls and dolls at Kohl's this week.

I bought some cute matching nightgowns at Kohls today for $13 or $14. They had 4 or 5 different styles mixed in with all the other pjs. We've had good luck with the Dollie & Me brand; I agree that they tend to run small though.

Edit: It looks like there's also Jumping Beans and St. Eve brands that have matching nightgowns according to Kohls.com

If you have a Big Lots near you, I just bought some really cute sets today that fit the AG for 7.00 each. One set I bought even came with "ugg like" boots.

I also second checking etsy.com. Lots of talented crafty people sell there. Some are members here, but are not allowed to advertise on the Dis.

My DD has lots of matching doll outfits I made her. I tried to buy her a set today at Kohls and she said she would rather I just make one for her LOL.

Kmart also had a line of matching clothes.
