Where to buy a red curtain or valance?

We're re-purposing an under utilized room, and turning it into a playroom for DD. I'm trying to keep it budget, since we've already spent almost $400 on the shelving units from Ikea.

I'm looking for a red curtain, or preferably just a straight valance. (I have visions of DD swinging on the curtains like Tarzan, so the valance would be better!) The window is around 5" wide, so I'm probably going to have to buy 2 or 3 valances in order to fit the width of the window. I'm finding plenty of stuff in dark red, but I want true red...like a primary red or Crayola red.

Any idea of where I could order something like this, without spending a small fortune? I've already checked the usual websites like Walmart.com, Kmart.com, Sears.com, etc with no luck.

Thanks! :)

Can you sew? I wanted true red for DS' room and couldn't find it anywhere either. In the end I bought a twin sheet and made the curtains for DS' window. You can get one on clearance or sale for very little money. I used the folded seam at the top for the rod pocket cut them straight across and just stitched a bottom seam. To make them special I bought a stencil that matched his theme and some fabric paint.

What type of material are you looking for?.......... I know Ikea carries red velvet curtains they also carry the rods too. All the curtain in my house are from Ikea. They all come in the same length and come with a fabric tape you use with your iron. They all wash up very nice in the washer too!

Even if you can't sew, seam tape and an iron will do for this - at least for the hem - the seam for the rod pocket probably needs at least a little bit of needle and thread. Its a pretty easy project

I just bought red curtains from target last week, but they are a darker shade.

Ho, Ho, Ho! Merry Christmas! How does FREE sound?

If you are willing to have very little gathering (if your window is 5 feet you won't have a lot of gathering on the rod), I have one in my Goodwill that is about 80 inches long. It's about 15 inches wide including a white pleated ruffle (NOT country ruffle, but flat pleats). My MIL made it for our daughter's room when it was decorated with Mickey Mouse. We just re-did her room last Christmas and I've not gotten rid of it. It is a bright crayon red.

I would be glad to send it to you if you would PM me your address. I'll send it out priority in the next few days.

Awww, thanks so much for the kind offer. I just went and measured my window, and it's larger than I estimated (75.5"). So, that wouldn't be quite big enough with just one. Thanks again though. :)

Thanks everyone for the responses. I'm really not handy at all, so sewing or even using the iron-on tape would be a challenge for me. :rotfl: I did finally find one online at valancestation.com for only $7.45 with free shipping. Even with buying 3 or 4 for the large window, that's pretty economical.

So glad you found something. That's a BIG window! BTW, I just noticed that I said that I had one in my Goodwill...like I own one or something. I meant to say, "in my Goodwill box". LOL!
