Where to break our drive down for an overnight stay?

We are driving down from Birmingham, AL this Friday. We decided to break up our trip instead of trying to drive the whole 10.5 hours at once. We aren't leaving until around 4:30 p.m., so we will be arriving pretty late wherever we go. I was thinking we should stop in either Valdosta, GA or Lake City, FL. We don't want to drive a whole lot on Saturday, but 3 or 4 hours would be fine.

Our most important criteria are safety, cleanliness, and price. We don't care if the hotel is shabby or has a pool, etc. because we will literally only be sleeping and brushing our teeth there.

Hoping someone here could give me a good recommendation for a city and maybe a good hotel, too. We don't mind having to drive a few minutes out of the way if it means a better deal or a safer place to stay.

We live in Sylacauga, Al and are thinking about doing the same thing. We are looking at stopping in Ocala. I would like suggestions for staying in that area.

There is a country inn & suites right on I 75 in Ocala that we have stayed at. The location sounds like it would be just about right for you. Not sure how much you want to spend though.

We live in Auburn and stop in Ocala. It might be a bit farther than you want to drive, though. I can't remember where we stayed, though...I think a Fairfield Inn?

The Comfort Suites in Valdosta was very clean and comfortable with a helpful staff when we stopped there in September. The location is super easy, right ff the highway, but we still found it very quiet.
