Where the Wild Things Are- just saw it (just got a SPOILER)

Really, wow. I wasn't going to see it anyway, just because I'd never read the book. But I watched a review and the critic said he thought it was really good and gave it 5 stars. I rarely listen to the critics anyway.

You are now the 10th person that I've read that didn't like it. Seems like a huge miss for the movie. I heard it was very sloooooow. And kind of dark. I have an adult friend that walked out of it! She said it was boring.
Too bad I wanted to see it. But thanks for the review I'll save our $$

I was thinking about taking my niece and nephew tomorrow. But nephew was kinda iffy on whether he wanted to see it and now that I'm seeing so many bad reviews on the net I think I'll pass.

Going with my niece, my sister and my cousin tomorrow. My niece CAN NOT wait to see this movie so we are giving it a chance. Besides my cousin can get us in the movies for free.

Yikes, I was looking forward to this movie and was going to take my DDs to see it tomorrow. I'm kind of cheap when it comes to movies, so we usually wait to see movies at the dollar theater. Maybe I'll have to rethink it and wait until it is in the dollar theater.

Some books just don't lend themselves to movies, and this was one.

Wow, DH and I just got back from watching it and we both LOVED it!

First of all, it is NOT a children's movie at all. The children in our theatre were clearly bored and I'm not surprised. It was definitely a movie for adults about childhood.

It was slow and dragged a little but I was never bored because the characters were so endearing and entertaining...and the little boy who plays Max was fantastic! I think I had a smile on my face the whole time, just at how wonderful the visuals were.

It had a great message...you can't run away from your problems, even in your imagination.

She didn't care for the movie and her daughters (ages 6 and 8, I think) didn't care for it and the 6 year old has had nightmares since seeing it. And Maurice Sendak, the author of the book, said that if anyone has a problem with that, you can go straight to he**!! He was heavily involved in the making of this movie.

I think they are marketing it wrong, though. They need to have made it more CLEAR that it's for adults and not for kids. I agree...it should have been PG13.

I heard part of an interview about the boy who played Max. He said there was a screening at his school and the movie scared/bothered a lot of the younger kids. I think we'll take a wait and see approach on this one, maybe DH and I can catch it when it comes to the cheap theater.

Well....voice of dissent here...

DH and I saw it tonight with our six year old son and we all three loved it. My little guy was really into the imagination and adventure and I thought the visuals were stunning. We all thought it was great. One of the best "family" movies we've seen in a long time.

Of course, I will also say that, as a family, we LOVED some other movies that seemed to get horrible reviews on this board....The Tale of Despereaux, Coraline....just to name a few.

Gosh, really? I was with three moms and two teens who went to either the midnight show or saw it today and loved it-all of them. Granted, none of them was a small child but all had fond memories of Max and his story so loved the embellishments and seeing the monsters come to life. I'm guessing it matters IF you have a history with the book. Maurice Sendak's interview with Terry Gross on Fresh Air as well as Spike Jones' were great!!! I'm seeing it; I'm just waiting for the crowds to subside.

wow. DH and I are really looking forward to seeing this Sunday. I suspect we'll love it as we love the book and are big fans of Spike Jonze(Director and co-screenwriter) and Dave Eggers(co-screenwriter). Neither have let us down in the past, but this definitely seems like one of those movies that isn't for everybody.
