Where the MOM'S? Name a mother DISNEY cartoon character please

Mulan has not only a mother, but a grandmother as well, but she's something of an anomoly.

Mom's who survive Disney movies are rather rare, and a main character having both parents that survive throughout the film is even more rare.

Peter Pan, Mr and Mrs Darling.

101 Dalmations, Pongo and Perdita.

Hercules had not only Zues and Hera, but Amphitryon and Alcmene too.

Mulan, Fa Zhou and Fa Li.

The Incredibles, Bob Parr and Helen Parr.

Losing one , if not both parents is to most kids very sympathetic and at the same time, a bit freeing. The worst happens..but they also get the feeling of "running away" for a short time. It's a formula carried over from fairy stories of old ala The Brothers Grimm, which were often morality tales as well.

I think that most of the stories are based on old fairy tales which rarely had mother figures. I seem to remember reading that the stories usually involved dead Moms in order to create more sympathy for the title character.

I agree with everyone else who's commented on "why" there are no mom's in Disney movies...aside from the fact that most of them were inspired by stories others had written (so Walt had no control of them) and that a child can understand that loss...

but I have come to the conclusion (especially in the case of the Princesses) that being raised without a mother is a challenge that each of these young women have overcome. In a way, it's empowering for little girls, you know?
