Where should we stay?

In a couple of years we are going to do a trip incorporating Legoland, Discovery Cove & Universal. That leaves us with 1, maybe 2 days at WDW. Our general plan is to stay in a DVC resort until the last night of the trip and then stay at Universal for their version of the FP's. We will be coming and going by car & will want lots of food choices within an easy distance to the resort. Home resort is BCV which would be our back up resort, but we wanted to not feel so in the middle of WDW and try a different resort. We thought about banking points and staying off property but would have too many left at that point to be able to bank them all. Where should we stay?

I would say that SSR or OKW. They are close to DTD, which is chalk full of differerent types of restaurants. In addition, I believe that it would not take long to drive off property and find even more, within a short 10 - 20 minute drive.

And, from what I understand, both those resorts have a very laid back and relaxing feel so it may be what you want.

I think that AKV would give you that relaxing feel but not sure that the food choices would be as varied or as easy to get to as SSR or OKW.

OKW/SSR versus BCV is virtually the same to go off property. BLT/WLV/AKV, are not as convenient.

Love Old Key West. Very laid back, nice decor, short trip to DTD, fewer points and larger accommodations.

I would do a THV - very close to the roads, so easy to get off property with a car.

SSR and OKW would be great choices - close to DTD and easy to get off property for meals. Also, since you'll be driving, both of these resorts offer convenient parking to your villa. They both have a relaxing atmosphere. Happy planning!

My vote is for Animal Kingdom Villas. A very nice resort away from the main parks. It's very quiet there and it is gorgeous.

definitely AKV. My husband and I took a week for my 30th birthday there and it was exactly what we needed. It was quite and very relaxing but at the same time really fun because of the animals. There was something really fun about being able to drink my coffee on the balcony in my pjs while watching the animals move about. Although you are a little further from everything, the trade off is worth it because you do not hear a peep other than the guests at the hotel. If you rent a car, then it is a straight shot out of the hotel to go everywhere so pretty easy to get out of WDW if necessary.

OKW is great and has big rooms, plus if you go right when you leave the resort it is much easier to get to the other palces you are going than from many of the other resorts. Not to mention it is significantly less points.

Definitely OKW or SSR. We stayed at SSR a couple summers ago and visited Discovery Cove and Sea World. It was really easy to leave the resort, get off of WDW property and make your way to other areas in Orlando. Plus there are a huge number of eating options not far off property by car. That being said, OKW is less points and not far down the road from SSR so I'd probably choose OKW now.

Definitely recommend OKW or SSR. We've rented a car staying at SSR many a times and it is very convenient to restaurants (we love IHOP :)) and getting to other areas.
Good luck with your trip!

I also would have to go with OKW
I think the location would be just what you are looking for and
the rooms are a little bit bigger and the points are less -
I like the boat ride down to Down Town Disney and there are many food choices
some very affordable (Earl of Sandwich -Pucks Express) and others .
Good luck let us know what you choose -

Here's another vote for Old Key West...as stated already, larger rooms, lower point costs. You can park right outside your room, easy in and out with vehicle and easy access to Route 4 to get to other destinations! Aside...I was at Aquatica last February and though a bit cool, had a great day with my two children (1o and 5 at the time)!

Good luck!
