What would be the best hotel for myself and my family to stay in?

We are going in the middle of September (so low season). We have a 3 yr old and an 18 month old, so we will need to go back to our room in the afternoon at the least to take a break.

Where would you stay, and why? We want to stay close within walking distance...

Thank you!

A lot of people like to stay at HoJo's (across the street on Harbor) as it is only a 10 minute walk or so from the main gate and they offer Entertainment Rate/Annual Pass discounts: http://www.hojoanaheim.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=14
They don't have any days available in September yet but I am sure something will come up later on (they add new days weekly). Anyway, the staff there are really friendly and helpful and the beds are super comfy. A lot of people like their pools and awesome kids suites.

Other good choices are Candy Cane Inn, BW Park Vue, Carousel Inn & Suites and Fairfield Inn by Marriott (all on Harbor). It may help to read reviews on Trip Advisor and such sites. Good luck picking a hotel :)

I second Hojo. Within walking distance, and it has a good feel...that's the best way to explain it. The entertainment rate is wonderful!

Because of the littel ones I would reduce your walk if you could. There are several hotels off of Harbor drive, try using tripadvisor or hotels.com to take a look at them and see what fits the needs of your family. I stayed off Harbor my last trip and couldn't believe how close I was. I'll never stay anywhere else.

Should we think about staying in a DLR hotel like PP, or would it be better to stay off of Harbor?

PPH is a longer walk and much more expensive than most hotels on Harbor. So if you don't mind the "motel atmosphere", the Harbor places are just fine for those on a budget. For us, it's not worth the extra costs for not that many extra benefits. But to each his own.

We just got back from our first family trip and stayed at the Desert Inn and Suites. We were very happy with it! It's not the Marriott but it worked for us. It was clean and nice and the location was awesome! We have a 6, 4, and 1 year old, so it was great to have a 5 min. walk to the park in the morning and then be able to break for lunch and nap time back at the hotel. Our next trip back we will be staying there.

Our first family trip to Disneyland was in mid September of 2008 and our children were 4 and 2 at the time. We stayed at the Desert Inn and Suites in a suite that had two queen beds in one room (without an outside exit!) and two queen beds in the other room of the suite. It worked really well for us. The motel is almost literally across the street from Disneyland and a MUCH shorter walk than HoJo. We're planning on staying there again on our trip this September.

The motel is NOT fancy at all and I made the children wear socks at all times because I'm a bit of a germaphobe. The sheets were clean though and we had a good stay. The close proximity to Disneyland is what will have us returning again this fall.

The Howard Johnson is probably the best family oriented Hotel on the strip of hotels, and is no more then a 10 min. walk to the main gate. But I am going to also recommend to you the Carousel, Tropicana, and the Park Vue Inn. The Tropicana even has its own late night convenient store where you can buy drinks, snacks, personal hygiene items, clothes, water bottles, and sandals, and even diapers if you have little ones and are running low. But anyone even those who dont stay at the Tropicana can use this store. Its fantastic.

Here is a link to the hotel strip. The green patch under "Manchester" road is the majority of the closest hotels to the main entrance.
