I want to go to WDW for the Food & Wine "gay days" meet on Oct 16. Now I just need to decide where to stay. Since I also want to go in December I don't want to spend a lot. Here's what I've come up with so far:
Pop: $283
POFQ: $417
CBR: $453
OKW: $646
WL: $675

I'm actually leaning towards el cheapo and doing Pop Century. I've never stayed at a value resort before. But I figure with a 3 day trip I'll be so busy at the parks I won't be at the resort much. I really enjoyed my stay at POFQ in June and would definitely stay there again. Just need to decide if it's worth the extra $. OKW and WL are little too high I'm thinking. Wanted to try to keep the resort under $500. What's everyone's opinions on Pop, CBR, and OKW?

Go with Pop Century. The Food and Wine Festival is NOT cheap. Go with the least expensive lodging option to offset the money you'll spend sampling goodies and drinks.

lol

Yep, go with PoP.

OKW is our home resort and we love the place, but you won't need anything that elaborate for the FWF. OKW is one of those places where the resort is the destination if you want it to be. You could spend the entire weekend at the resort and never make it to the park! :teeth:

As Rob says, the FWF is pricey so you'll want to cut your expenses on lodging, and PoP really is a neat little place to stay.

Have you thought about staying at either the Swan or Dolphin? Nice short stagger back from Epcot without having to wait for the bus!

I did think about staying at the Swan/Dolphin, especially since they have discounts for people who work in education. Unfortunately, they don't have anything available that weekend.

There's nothing wrong with POP ... unless it rains. It's fine for a solo trip. Have fun!

We have stayed at Pop and really enjoyed it! But Mike is right - if it rains the puddles are about 4 inches deep. Wear shoes that can be submerged.

Not everyone possesses the awesome power to make it rain for days at a time at WDW. That power belongs only to a few select people. I know, you are jealous of my astounding weather abilities.

Wow. I hate to tell you this, but the rain in Florida doesn't just happen when you're here as an inconvenience to you.

That dizziness you're feeling . . . it's not the world revolving around you.

It rains here ALL THE TIME! So the statement "if it rains" is amusing. :rotfl2:

Nonsense. YOU were the one who pointed out that the weather gods wait in anticipation of my arrival in central FL.

Today I am wielding my power over North Texas. ;)

In that case, by all means, don't go out into it.

We'd hate to have you melt like your sister did . . . :rolleyes1

Good God Rob, dont get her going! Have you seen the projected path of Gaston?

It's booked! I ended up going with Pop. Good news is prices on flights came down!! I was going to book Air Tran @ $79 each way. Today when I went to book the return flight was up to $99. Southwest dropped to $99 each way. Since AirTran charges for bags, Southwest ended up cheaper (plus I get Rapid Rewards points). I used the savings on the flight to book an extra night at Pop. I'll come in Thursday night and leave Monday evening. Any particular building or era I should request? Since I'm going solo I'm going to request a king bed. :)

Hey! Good for you. Glad it all worked out. When we stayed there we were given the 50s area. Nice enough! I honestly don't think one area is a huge improvement over another. They are all essentially equal, so request the king and hopefully you'll get one!

I like the Mickey phone building (70's), top floor, at the end farthest away from the elevators. I don't like people tromping back and forth in front of my door. The trees have probably grown since our last stay, but we could see fireworks from our room.

We had the Roger Rabbit building once. It was FAR! And we had to cut through the parking lot to get to the food or buses because that was the most direct path. Going on the sidewalk took FOREVER.

Pop sounds like a good choice. We stayed there once. It was pretty good, but, we spent all our time in the parks, so, I barely remember where we were...I think we were looking onto the Computer Pool?
