Where should a 1 yr old sit on these rides?

On rides like the Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Carribean (and the like) , would you have your 1 yr old sit on your lap or beside you? At what age do they sit on their own? Is there a certain age that the kids won't be allowed to sit on an adult's lap?

Haunted Mansion, the 1 yr old would probably have to sit next to you because of the lap bar, same with Peter Pan and a few others. For POTC, we usually sit the baby next to us, in the middle or on someone's lap who is sitting in the middle of the row. Same with the boat ride in Mexico. Most of the rides you can hold your child if you are more comfortable doing that.

My biggest piece of advice is that if you take one of the parking lot trams, make sure you hold on TIGHT to any children! We were on one once and the driver was going really fast and stopped short. We were holding DS in between us and when the tram stopped short DS smashed his face into the seat in front of us. (And that was with both DH and myself holding him back!) We now avoid those trams as much as possible.

DD sat on my lap on all of those rides. Even at DL in Dec at 22 months, she still sat on my lap some, mostly because she could see better. The times that she say beside me was because she wanted to be independent. There are lap bars, but they don't have to come all the way down on you...to the child's lap is fine.

We held him on our laps on all rides. PLease think about skipping the Safari ride. We took DS at 17mo and holding him tightly and during the 'chase' portion our driver hit some major bumps and we both went flying forward. DS almost hit head on the seat in front of us. This ride is different each time since it's actually controlled by the driver you never know how bad the bumps are. I think small babies/children should not be allowed on. If parents are busy looking at all the animals and not holding on tightly I can see the opportunity for injury on this ride.

Sorry but I was so upset about the roughness of this ride and my child popping of my lap despite me holding onto him.

Never had problem taking little one on anything, most times just put her between me and DH. I felt more secure with her on the seat and having my arm around her than letting her sit on my lap, thinking especially about Peter Pan. You're up kind of high, if that thing were to stop suddenly or toddler were to squirm just the right way when you weren't paying attention, you could have a nasty fall.

Agree about those trams, those things really move!!!

I went on this ride while 19 weeks pregnant (yes, despite the warnings) and sat in the last row it was so rough I honestly thought I had damaged the baby and spent the rest of the day miserable and worrying. I hadn't planned on any of the restricted rides, but thought this one would be fine since it's like driving on a rough road, but I was wrong.

I have taken my daughter on it at 3,4, and 9 months, but I keep her in the Baby Bjorn cause I am afraid of her flying out of my arms too. Now she'll be almost 14 months on our next trip, and not sure if she'll be able to comfortable be in the Bjorn while I'm sitting down (she's fine in it now when I'm walking, but gets a little annoyed when I sit cause I think her legs get uncomfortable). If not, I think I might skip it that time too cause I know what you mean about it being rough.

I will add though, the front row is much, much less bumpy than the back, so if you ride it, ask for the front. You might have to wait (some trucks don't have a front row), but it's worth it.

I forgot to post that my daughter has either been on my lap or in the Baby Bjorn on me on all those rides you mentioned, and any other rides she has been on.

We kept our 15 month old in a sling for most of the rides. I was quite a worrywart aobut him wiggling out and falling into the water, graveyard, whatever I wouldn't let any of my family ride Astro Orbiters because of the wiggle factor!!

If there is any delay on HM before getting on the Doombuggy, your child will be trapped in a small area with extremely loud, shrill screaming.

Pirates has very loud shooting sound effects. And the dark environment might be un-nerving.

That is true. Though I have to add that my daughter has no fear of things like that yet. My 2.5yo niece, on the other hand, did not like either of those attractions, probably for the reasons mentioned above.

I think it really depends on your child. Both my kids are fearless and those are their 2 favorites. My DS rode for the first time when he was 13 months (he's now 5) and my DD rode at 8 months. I agree that if your kids are easily startled by loud noises maybe you should avoid POTC, but the cannons are only for about a minute. Both my kids like it because it's a pretty gentle boat ride. They thought HM was a good time to rest in the dark. But again, I know my kids, they don't scare easily (sometimes they are TOO fearless ) and felt comfortable taking them on these rides. You need to use your own judgement for your own kids.
