Almost 3 weeks ago I picked up the Atkins book and was very excited about starting (I have low blood sugar so I looked forward to getting that leveled). I did really good for the first week then fell of the wagon by taking DD to the movies, I couldn't resist the popcorn. Then came her birthday party with pizza and cake, and a friends birthday party with pizza and cake. And it just goes on and on. So what happened, have I given into the food, the answer is yes. I have maintained my weight while I have been splurging (I even found myself eating a Krispy Kreme from the grocery store and hiding the bag in the car so my supportive DH didn't see it) but haven't been able to put that 5 pounds clippy in my signature yet. So, today is a new day, I just ate my last high carb food and I am starting over. From this minute on I am back on Atkins and to get my motivation back, I am going to print out some photos from the Festival of the Lion King show(my ultimate goal is to try out for the show after I lose the weight and tone up) and I am going to tack them up everywhere, on the fridge, on the front door, put one in the car, so the next time I think about sneaking a Krispy Kreme, reality can slap me in the face.

Thanks for letting me vent, I've been feeling pretty crappy about my splurging, especially since my DH has been so supportive.

Hang in there Ginger. You can't change yesterday's carbs, so cut your losses. Pick up your Atkins book and say, "Wow, I wonder what this is all about, I think I'll do this."
Consider yourself blessed to have MAINTAINED, it usually doesn't work out that way.
One more thing: What a goal! To be IN the Lion King show?
Make sure you let us know, so we can spot you on our next visit!

I Ginger! I'm sorry I only saw this post today or I would've replied sooner! I understand where you're coming from--I've been struggling myself with eating healthy. I'm maintaining my weight loss now, but it can be sooo easy to fall back into old eating patterns--I just posted yesterday about how I need to eat better. Maybe you need to make a clean start just like teachingmykids said. Put the past behind you and begin again--nothing wrong with that! Ginger, it can be so difficult sometimes--I have been there over and over again. I can tell you since I've achieved my goal, that the good health and strength I have gained (along with the shrunken dress sizes!) are well worth the efforts I made. I had setbacks many times--lost motivation, pigged out--you name it! But I was always able to put it behind me and move on--that was THE KEY for me. Do not get discouraged and do not think you have failed! The changes you're making are for a lifetime, and what's a few days of going off program when you're talking about a lifetime?! Just don't let those few days define where you are now--pick yourself up and start fresh! Ginger, YOU CAN DO IT!!! I think you're goal of being in the Lion King is fabulous! If you can dream it, you can achieve it! We believe in you--believe in yourself! I'm sorry this is so long, but after the 15 months it took me to lose my weight, I kind of feel as if I've "experienced it all" when it comes to staying motivated and not giving up--I really understand how you feel! Hugs Ginger, and we're always here if you need us!:grouphug:

Hi Ginger.:wave2:
Sometimes I think we need to try a couple of times before we really get motivated. But a fresh start is a great way to go. Just start over and don't even think about the splurging.
When I first started this journey I did not allow myself to eat at parties and such because it just made eating poorly easy the next day. I went for about three months without eating anything off plan. Then I had a half of a soda at a party because it was all they had to drink. I really regretted that because I got a really bad headache for two days. (you've gotta love that low blood sugar monster!:D ) So now I try to avoid anything with regular sugar in it. But I do have a slice of pizza every so often. You just need to know you limits and what foods may send you splurging.
I agree your goal to be in the Lion King is great motivation! Good luck this week!

Hi Ginger,

I wanted to add my support to the other posts. If we truly believe we are making changes in our eating habits for life, then we have to acknowledge that we may fall off the wagon from time to time. The most important thing is to recognize our behavior and make the necessary corrections. You have already done that. I wish all the best in your weight loss efforts. Please know that we are here for you!
