Like...how many days does 34 points get you? Or Am I going about this all wrong? I have no idea how DVC works :headache:

Read the sticky threads at the top of the Rent/Trade Board. As for the number of points required, look at the top of any of the DVC threads and see DVC Points Charts.

But points are worthless to you if you are not a member. You are really purchasing a reservation from a member that the member made with their timeshare points.

Yes. I plan on renting points and just wanted to know how points equate to days.

You can study the DVC Point Charts using the link at the upper right of this page. That will show you how many points are needed at each DVC resort throughout the year. Weekends are a little higher than weekdays and more popular times of the year tend to be a little higher than other dates.

I'd also suggest having an idea what the same accommodations would cost directly thru Disney so you have something to compare when considering a rental. I'd use $10-$13 per point when comparing a direct reservation vs a DVC rental.

Good luck!

I am sorry if this is not where I should post this but, I am not a DVC member. If I wanted to purchse someone elses "points" does that mean I can book a room/villa at the BW? Or, do i actually have to "purchase" someone's timeshare for that week? :confused3 Again, I am sorry but My DH and I are on the fence of wheather or not to join DVC. Thanks so very much :cool1:

we talk about buying or renting "points" but that's not really what's going on. as a non-owner, pts are no good to you...member services will not even speak with you.

as a DVC owner, i can make reservations at a DVC resort with my pts. i can then sub-rent that reservation to you, if i want.

you can stay at the BWV on a pts reservation, but not the BW Inn...so that can be an important distinction. if you want to stay at the poly, DVC isn't what you are looking for.

here is a link to more info on DVC with links to info and pics of the DVC resorts on the left hand side.

when you rent a reservation, you would pay based on the number of pts used. the going rate might be anywhere from $8 to $14 per pt. the number of pts needed depends on the DVC resort, time of year and weeknights/weekend nights. point charts are here:

http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-vacation-club/DVCpoints.shtml

since it's a timeshare, DVC villas tend to book up much more quickly than wdw hotels. owners at a resort can book 11 months in advance...so 4 months out might be considered "short notice" and only have limited options.

also, your reservation will not include daily mousekeeping. (every 4th day, you will get either trash removed/towels (etc) replaced, or full cleaning. it depends on how long you are staying.)

since you are making a deal with an individual and not with disney directly, payment terms and cancellation options (if any) vary considerably. fraud is rare but not unheard of, so be careful.

for more information, this thread is starting to get a little dated but is very useful:

[thread=1669863]Considering Renting from a DVC Member?[/thread]

you will also want to read the stickied threads at the top of the rent/trade board (which you can only see if you are logged in.)

if it seems overwhelming, david has an ad on the rent/trade board and i would just recommend starting there.

Wow! LOL a lot to take in. Thanks so much for explaining and for posting the links Charles, I really appreciate it. :goodvibes
