Where is THE place to eat?

So I am just curious as to restaurants at TDL & TDS. What are the restaurants you cannot miss while visiting? For example, here in CA, we have the exclusive Club 33 (I think Tokyo does too??), and the Blue Bayou (I know Tokyo has this one). So since I have been to both of those, what is the must see restaurant at the parks? I ran across Magellan's for TDS, but not sure if that is the most recommended.

Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall in TDL looks awesome and is a totally unique experience. As for TDS, I think the Bella Vista lounge in the Miracosta has the most amazing view ever from the dining room.

My favorite is TDS is Magellan's lounge, remember to ask if you can dine in the secret wine cellar. They will escort you to some book shelves and when you press the hidden button it will slide aside to reveal your dining area. Ristorante Di Canelletto is also great especially if the weather is nice for outdoor dining and you can enjoy watching the gondola's go by. For a light meal my favorite is the Teddy Roosevelt Lounge but Magellan's Lounge is also quite nice!

At TDL, the is a club 33 and it's really lovely especially at Christmas but very difficult to get into. I would recommend Blue Bayou or Queen of Hearts and Grandma Sarah's Kitchen and China Voyager also have really great theming! It's a little pricier but if you are interested in a show with your dining the evening show of The Golden Horseshoe is really great!

As for Hotel dining the restaurants are all very good. Like ben1993 said Bellavista Lounge has an amazing view! My fave at Miracosta though is the course dining at Oceano. For Lunch during the week Silk Road has a really great lunch set called the Tasting Menu at only 2,000 yen which is fantastic.

I like that at Ambassador they usually have some sort of present included with the course menu so if you would like an extra souvenir on top of great dining it's a good choice. Empire Grill has a weekday lunch special for 4500 yen which for 500 yen more you can add a dessert buffet.

The restaurants at Disneyland Hotel are also very nice. The Dreamers lounge has a lovely afternoon tea set but it is limited to 25 a day so make sure to get there early especially for popular events like the Christmas version.

I saw the Queen of Hearts Banquet, and I thought that it looked really cool. But, how different would it be from the Alice in Wonderland restaurant in Tokyo (not TDL)? I have dined at Club 33 & Blue Bayou here in CA, so I would have no problem skipping out on them to experience something I cannot experience elsewhere.

No problem! The theming is much better at the Disneyland restaurant vs the Alice in Wonderland restaurant in Ginza but the food at the Alice restaurant might be more interesting, I haven't been in a few years so I don't remember that well. I would say though that if you are going to eat in Ginza there are so many good restaurants that it's a waste to eat at the Alice restaurant imo.

Not a restaurant by any means, but you should try the steamed bun with meat fillings at the Refreshment Station.

There was such hype surrounding this food cart prior to my trip. I heard stories of people lining up for 2-3 hours to get these things.

Luckily, I only had to wait 20 minutes whin I was there. And those warm buns really hit the spot on that cold April day. Would I wait 3 hours for it? Hell no!! :rotfl2:

So if the line ain't too long and you need a quick snack, it's worth checking out.

That sounds like the Dole Pineapple stand at DLR. I waited about 20 minutes last month, so refreshing on hot SoCal day.

I would like to TRY to coincide our trip with the cherry blossom festivals. So I have some homework to do.... :coffee:

Our favorite, better than the bun and with less line was at TDL; it was basically bacon wrapped rice. DELICIOUS! It was at a small stand, next to the one shapped like a boat kind of near the treehouse. Casual dining but DH & I still dream about it a year later. We were kind of disappointed in Canalettos, just so so. We actually enjoyed Mickey's kitchen in the Ambassador hotel. Tons of character access (in fact it almost became disruptive). And the food was good and very fun to try different japanesse foods - turns out I love Lotus blossom (or at least I think that is what it was). But also some "safe" american foods in case you want to supplement. We also enjoyed just sitting for a little bit out of the chaos of the parks.

Blue Bayou's menu is not like DL. The food is pretty bad, and the one nod to Bayou cuisine, a gumbo, is a poor take.

Magellan would not be able to survive on its own, and its not nearly as good as the many places to eat at WDW. Regardless of price, it is mediocre food. Also it's painfully slow, so make sure you tell them you have a parade/show or something else to go to. Basically go there to sit in elegant surroundings in air-conditioned comfort as a break from the park, but don't go expecting special food like in Orlando.

I went to Magellan's today for my son's birthday and per DreamSweetsLove recommendation, asked for the wine cellar seating. We really enjoyed it, food was pretty good, service was good and the atmosphere in the wine cellar is much quieter than the general dining room, which was nice. If you have kids joining you, they have nice set lunches broken up into two age group recommendations. I have a kid in each of the age groups and they ate and enjoyed everything they were served. All and all we enjoyed it but probably won't eat there on a regular basis as it was over $100 USD for our family of four for lunch (no alcohol) and our budget can't sustain that. But it was great as a treat and I would do it again for a special occasion.

On a side note, the park was pretty busy today because it was a Sunday and a holiday weekend for the Japanese to boot. I definately recommend using priority seating when possible. I think if you book at a TDR hotel you can do online priority seating bookings. I've never booked a TDR hotel through their website, so instead as soon as we got into the park today we went to Magellan's to get a priority seating time for lunch. We went to get the booking around 9:30-ish and couldn't get in until 2pm.

It was totally worth waiting because every other line for food in the park was at least 30+ minutes (even for caramel popcorn) and the curry place in the Arabian Coast was 60+ minutes. Of course this is a country where people will wait 330(!) minutes to ride Toy Story Mania.....

Cool! Glad you enjoyed it! A tip for TSM, usually the wait is shorter than the posted time. We went last Sunday and the wait posted was 120minutes but it only took half the time. I think they put the worst case scenario for the wait time.
