When I first got engaged, we didn't want to spend the money for a diamond ring so I started looking on the internet. I ended up ordering a ring from www.czengagementrings.com. I actually was very happy with it - you can choose the metal - 10K, 14K, or platinum and completely design the ring. The only problem I had was that I wanted it to look real and I felt like going too big was not realistic so I ordered a 3/4 carat solitaire. When I received the ring, it looked more like a carat. I called them about it and they said that their carat sizes look bigger because of the way they are cut.
I then lost a bunch of weight and that ring didn't fit any more. I went ahead and orderd a diamonique from QVC because my mother has several pieces and has already been really happy with it. I wear the one from QVC now because it fits better. I receive a lot of compliments on it.
If she wants a certain design, I would recommend CZ engagement rings. I can't tell the different between the Diamonique and CZ ring. She might also look for a white topaz ring. I think they look like diamonds but aren't nearly as expensive.
Another vote for QVC - specifically, the Epiphany line. They're platinum-clad silver, so they shouldn't tarnish - and my Epiphany ring looks a LOT like my antique-setting diamond.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. My friend called me last night and is not going to make it this Saturday as planned. When she does make it over, I have all your suggestions and we will check them out.
Diamonique for sure!! I had a pair of beautiful earrings that everyone thought were real. I lost one in the store last month, and while I was upset, I wasn't heartbroken since it wasn't a real diamond.
