WHERE IS MY BAG. . .Day 1 trip report to Wilderness Lodge

The day is finally here, it is June 4th, the day I have planned and planned for and I am SO excited. I have packed everything off the list, made sure we had extra diapers, a carry on with all of our items if a bag gets lost, packed my kids suitcases, packed a snack suitcase with fruit juice, snacks, etc. Had my magical express stickers on all of our bags (which I had to tape down since they kept falling off). YES, today is the day we’ve been waiting for, let’s hop in the car and go!!!!

My parents drop us off at the airport (Cincinnati airport) as a favor. I’m all excited. We walk up to the ticket counter and are checking our bags. I look around and I count the bags, The big black one is my husbands (check), the blue one is the snack/juice/diaper suitcase (check), the big blue one is my kids suitcase (check) the small black bag is the carry on I so carefully executed (check), the small blue bag is the carry on packed with items to keep the kids busy during the 2 hour flight (check). WHERE IS MY BAG!!!!???? You have GOT to be kidding me? Where is it? Is it in my parents car? We call them. . .NO! I had left it at our HOUSE!!! How can that be possible? Well, here I am facing Disney with no luggage, only what I have on my back and feet (luckily my comfy TEVA sandals) and one change of clothes in my carry on and luckily my swim suit which I had put in there as well. I was angry, but I knew I couldn’t let it ruin my trip. I called my parents and they arranged to take some items from the bag and would be shipping it to me (54 dollars later) in a box (just the necessities, a few tank tops, hairspray (YES this is a necessity to me) and UNDERWEAR (I did find out that they DO sell nice Disney underwear, had to find it because my box wouldn’t arrive for 2 days).

As we were making our way through security and I was in a daze my husband tapped me on the shoulder and said, look Lesley, you may have lost your luggage, but look at him (points to a burn victim in a wheelchair going through security with a lot of help) you need to put things into perspective” TRUE TRUE, o.k. count your blessings I completely understand. I have my health, and we are GOING TO DISNEY!!!

We continue onto a fabulous flight, and have a WONDERFUL magical express experience. Got to the counter no problem, waited in line 2 minutes at the counter, waited for our bus to the WL for only 4 minutes and was on board for 30 minutes because we were the first stop YES! O.K. things were looking up. We go to check in and they informed me we were on the fifth floor NOT on the Magic Kingdom side (had requested 5th or 6th floor magic kingdom side). I put on my BEST smile and asked ever so sweetly if anything was available on the 5th or 6th floor Magic Kingdom side. He got on the phone and we had room 6032 (it was a smoking room but we couldn’t smell it and didn’t care). The room was OUTSTANDING. PERFECT view of the monorail, Wishes at night was incredible, could see it all including the low one’s. RIGHT by the elevator which was right above roaring forks. So convenient for filling up mugs.

We were instantly in love with this resort, it is truly breathtaking. We had only stayed at POP century before which we loved, but you just can’t compare the two. From the breathtaking lobby to the pool, to the welcoming staff it is just incredible. We didn’t have a single complaint about the immenities here.

O.K. so to continue the story. We get there, go to MGM for Stars Wars Weekends which was GREAT. No one seemed to know that Jedi Mickey was in the Sounds dangerous theatre. Tim caught up with Chewbacca:

We walked right in and there was only one other couple in front of us for pictures, INCREDIBLE! Enjoyed the Stars and Motor Cars parade, great parade the kids loved it! We ate dinner at Sci Fi , didn’t enjoy that experience which was a bummer. When we got back to the hotel at 9:00 we were pleasantly surprised by the turndown service and our luggage, but wait a minute, WHERE IS THE KIDS BAG?? You’ve got to be kidding me? I called bell services and they asked for the luggage i.d. from Delta, LUCKILY I saved these, they had stuck them on the envelope of the boarding passes, I gave them the number and the bag was delivered around 11:45 p.m. but at least IT ARRIVED>

First day down, I’m exhausted, time for bed.

Things to look forward to: Me forgetting my ticket to the parks when we arrive for an 8:00 character breakfast and how that is handled : )

Great report Lesley! I hope I'm as well organized as you are - never even thought of packing snacks in a separate suitcase (and also you gave me an idea to pack at least one change of clothes for each of us on a carry-on). Can you check a bag with food & drinks in it? This will save a bundle on mid-day snacks and breakfast plus if we don't rent a car & don't have the option of stopping off at at a grocery store. We're planning on returning to the BWV next March and even tho we had a kitchen before, we never ate anything in the room (except making coffee & maybe donuts one morning). Your boys are real troopers having had a full day! Can't wait til your next day report!! :Pinkbounc

Glad you read the report and found it helpful/amusing. Yes, the snack suitcase was checked and worked wonderfully. I bought a TON of plastic bottles of welch's juice, they were on sale for 6 packs 3/5.00 and figuring Disney gets 1.99 for every juice box we saved a lot just by having the juice. I also packed those enteman's pre-packaged muffins, goldfish crackers, fruit chewy's, peanut butter crackers, and other various pre-packaged snacks like that. It was great and I must say they were almost all gone by the end of the week. It was easy to pick up a few bottles of juice and bags of snacks and throw them under the stroller for the day in a bag and use them as we went, saved a lot of money.

Loved your report, the best part was your DH pointing out the burn victim and telling you to put things in perspective. I understand your anxiety, I'd have been a crazy woman, mainly because I couldn't buy clothes at WDW, I am 5'11'' and generally special order everything...but that person in the chair would have shown me how lucky I was. Reading lots of these trip reports I am amazed at how people let the smallest things upset them...and no, your bag being left at home is not a small thing !!! Am looking forward to the rest of your report, am also admiring your organization.

If you're ever in a similar situation, FedEx or UPS could have that bag there the next day, or second day for less. It would be cheaper than if you had to buy things for the trip and you would have all your stuff.

We used UPS and for just the box alone w/out most of my things for 2nd day they charged 54.00

You didn't let the bag thing get you down!

When we went to the Animal Kingdom we saw a castmember in a wheelchair.
The man has no legs, but was smiling at everyone. I turned to my husband and said "here I am complaining that my feet hurt!".

I guess everything is based on perspective. Glad you had a good time!! :flower:

Hey- I would have been ticked that I forgot my bag... SO, good for your for having a good attitude about it. I don't know if I could have been the bigger person. :0)

Thanks for your report!

Well done for being so organised, having bag no's, etc. You kept calm and even gained a better room. Great report, can't wait to read more...

I packed our cases with a mixture of everyone's clothes, evenly divided (in case one case got lost) so whatever happened as long as one bag turned upeveryone would have a few things to wear while waiting for the shops to open....er baggage to turn up ;) . I also packed a set of nightwear and a set of swimwear in separate ziplock baggies (big ones!) in our carry-on so whatever happend we could sleep comfortably and enjoy the pool. :)

You should have the airline sent you the bag. There are special arrangements made for incidents like these.

I asked if my parents brought the bag if they could send it and they were very stern and told me absolutely not. Since 9/11 I think they are very strict with the bag must travel on your own plane policy. She said if it wasn't checked 30 minutes prior to the flight they would have to ship it.

As for the packing a little bit for everyone in each suitcase, EXCELLENT idea, I will definitely do it that way next time!
