I have been to Disneyland so many times, but I have never seen this. Is animation place something new? Where is it?

Thanks for any help you can provide.:goodvibes

The Animation Studio is a large building in Hollywood Pictures backlot @ DCA. Inside thereis Turtle Talk w/ Crush-Learn to Draw Disney characters and some more activities to do. It is near the front of HPB close to Playhouse Disney Live.

I recently visited the Toy Story Zoetrope in this building for the first time. I have no idea how long it's been there, but my toddler, my husband and I were all fascinated. I highly recommend it. It only starts up every few minutes so if it doesn't look impressive at first, wait around for it to start running.

My kiddo also enjoyed the sorceror's workshop area, which has hands on activities for kids to experience. The beast's library lets you take a quiz to see which disney character you are most like (I'm Jane from Tarzan.)

It is such a neat place! My family REALLY loved this and spent a lot of time there. We just loved going into the central area and relaxing watching clips of Disney's animated classics. It's such a neat atmosphere, almost like you are jumping into one of the movies! All the activites that spur off of this area are so much fun. We went back to draw with the artists several times and my kids have their drawings hanging up in their rooms. Even my 5yo's drawing came out looking like the real characters!
Turtle Talk With Crush is a lot of fun and the other thing my kids loved is the Beast's Library. The gift shop off of this area has some really cool animation books, etc. too. I'm not sure how many people actually spend a lot of time here but in my opinion, it is one of the "hidden gems" that a lot of people might gloss over since it is not a "ride" attraction.:smickey:

Just an FYI that they changed the "set-up" of Animation Studio. When we went in March you no longer could take the stroller into the main area. :confused3 They also took out the seating in that area! I don't know if this was a permanent change or not. I really liked being able to push the stroller into a nice cool area to sit and watch those great clips! We were there in late April but the whole animation building was closed.:(
Has anyone been lately? Did they put back the seating area in the big room?
BTW - I love the Toy Story Zoetrope! Very cool! :thumbsup2

Yep they put the seating area back in the room. Its because they did away with the Snow White exhibit going on in there. The room is now back to normal.

Off the Page(gift shop connected to the animation building) has some beautiful artwork(some of which now hangs on my wall though I didn't purchase it from Off the Page) there. It really is a hidden gem.

SO glad to hear this:thumbsup2 I was worried for a while!
It really is a magical place to hang out for a little while and rest!

Oh Oh Oh!!!!! I am so excited to see some questions about this place and some answers as well!!
I have been doing Disney for years and always spent so much of my time running around getting in all the big things that everyone wants to do and never slowed down to enjoy some of these other Disney Treasures until my last 2 trips!!!
I guess getting older ( I am now in my 30's:scared1: ) has slowed me down a bit to the point where yeah the rides are still a blast but I am now in the mind set that I want to slow down and smell the:coffee: so to speak and starting exploring all the goodies that I had always passed up before:cloud9:
This building is fantastic:banana: it is inside CA park and has the Turtle talk with Crush show in in. I love that little show I wanna be one of the cool kids sitting up near the front so Crush will talk with me too, but a 30ish women in mouse ears pushing the other kids hands down and raising my hand even higher for crush to pick me probably would not go over too well:wave: KWIM....LOL! Anyhow point being the show is great IMHO!!
First time we did Turtle talk with Crush we wandered over to the animation studio and got right in for that as well and wouldn't ya know they were drawing Mickey Mouse:banana:   I loved that even more than our kiddos and still have my drawing to this day!!!
We skipped everything else in the building that day but when we were there again about 2 and a half weeks ago we just had to go in again and wouldn't ya know we found that we had missed a few other fun things in that building as well. I loved all the hands on things they had in what I called the hidden workshop (since I never saw it before) and I got some fantastic pictures of it that I will upload later and share on this thread! We loved Beast's library and I found that the Disney Character I was most like was Cinderella!!!! Yeah!!!
We could not tear away from the area where you get to sing and act and they actually record your voice to go along with the Disney Characters voice in the scene you pick!!!! This was great and we had a difficult time pulling away from it to make the next time slot for the animation studio again but we did and guess what POOH BEAR!!! We got to draw that loveable honey loving little bear!!! I was so happy ......cause he's my all time fav!!!! I was amazed that to draw him we started out with the shape of a Pop tart!!!! I was so shocked to see his cute little face come to life in my Pop tart!!! Still got the pic!!!
Anyhow I am sure you get that I really like the animation building and on June 9th when we are down there again we will for sure allow more time to visit this building because I am looking forward to singing, laughing and drawing with the girls all over again:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Point being go visit and give yourself some time to check out all the hidden fun you can find in this building!!! It is a great place to unwind for a bit and enjoy yourself after rushing around the park getting in all the big stuff before the lines get so long!!!!

Have a blast!!!

love this place and as mentioned its a hidden gem. never had to wait for anything there or stand in line or ask people to move so i could see the screen. and the shop next to it is great i wish i could afford some of the art in there.

I love the animation building too!! Our first trip to DCA (2002) we stumbled across it looking for more things for our 2 young boys to enjoy (ds3 and dss3). They loved it and we continue to go back each time!!
BTW Off the Page is my fav store in DCA.

I'm so glad to see that the main room is back to normal. It looked empty without the seating areas.

This is a great place to go when it's raining. We were there, and then at least 10 characters came in. They were dancing with the children, and there was some great interaction. One of my favorite moments came when they started playing the theme song for Emperor's New Groove, and Kuzco started dancing in perfect character. Loved it.

This is a great idea, too: On Monday, one of the DIS ladies (which one of you? Stacerita? Chris? Cheryl? Molly?), and she had been to Animation Station and had drawn Goofy. Then when she went outside there was Goofy! So she had him autograph her drawing. I love that idea for a souvenir. :)

Mine, too. Has anyone ever tried to find all the characters who escaped off the pages on the ceiling & find where they are SUPPOSED to be? My dd, Kelly (or daisuke here), and I did it once. Took us 20 minutes. After all that work I just had to buy myself a treat from there. ;)

Very cool place, be sure to visit;) Also, an older very cool CM named Dan works there... and I highly recommend pin trading with him :) If you see him, tell him Hi from the Young's!

On one of the DISboard girls trip days I found myself alone as I had skipped the Blue Bayou lunch. I rode ToT 5 or 6 times, watched the Alladin show and then went in the the ANimation building to look at the Zoetrope. I sat down and stared at the spinning and fell asleep. No one bothered me, it wasn't crowded or noisy and a had quite the nice nap!!

Luckily I awakened just in time to rush to meet the group for our VIP tour!!

I like the area....rarely crazy and good AC!!! Oh, and interesting too!!!

Thanks, guys! You are the best!:goodvibes This really helps me. I can't believe we have missed this all the times we have been there.

I can't wait to try it out in a few weeks.

It was ME! (Cheryl)

It was meant to be . . . Goofy loved my drawing of him!

I hadn't been in the The Animation Academy for a few years until last week. Last time I was in there there was an animator on stage showing you how he drew but he was interacting with a movie with Mushu-you didn't get to draw along.

Well, DD8 and I were there last Friday and went inside the Anaimation Building to get out of the upcoming rain and see the Toy Story Zoetrope (which is so cool) Anyway, we were deciding on which show to see, Crush or the AA. Both start at the same time. Every 1/2, on the hour and the half hour. We picked AA and I'm glad we did! DD loved it. We did Winnie the Pooh and she liked it so much we got in line again to do Mickey. Mickey was a little harder to do.

We were there again yesterday (Wed.) and DD wanted to do it again. So, my DM, DD , and myself did it again. It was Mickey again with a different animator.

We will definitely do it again-I would like to do Tigger or Goofy.

And I love the idea of having the character sign your drawing-great idea! I did keep our drawings and will be adding them to my scrapbooks.

The other thing my DD loves to do is wait in the main room with my DSis while I ride ToT. I'm so glad that Snow left and the room has been returned to normal. I love listening to the songs and seeing the clips. Also, TT with Crush is amazing! A must see!

Fun too is Sorcerer's Workshop where you can take quiz to see which character you aremost like. When you leave that room you can visit Usula's Grotto where you can sing along with a movie clip.

The Animation is a great place to visit anytime but especially nice when it's rainy :umbrella: or during the heat of the summer. :sunny:
