Where in the world can you still buy Absinthe?

Regarding that unfortunate cruise ship death; They are now saying they were drinking Absinthe the night the groom fell (or was pushed) off his balcony. Absinthe has been banned just about everywhere on the globe. Can someone still legally buy it somewhere?

Come to Europe - Absinthe is legal pretty much everywhere over here.

I've purchased it legally in the Czech Republic. Also in France, not sure if that was legal though!

I think that *genuine* absinthe is pretty much non-existant now - it used wormwood or something which is hallucinogenic. You can get a watered down version in quite a few places, the UK included.

You can still buy absinthe containing wormwood in Europe. The active substance in wormwood is called thujone, and in order to comply with European Union limits, the thujone levels in commercially distilled absinthe must be10mg/l or less. The thujone levels in commercially distilled absinthe in Germany must be 30mg/l or less. However, before you could consume a toxic amount of thujone from drinking commercial absinthe, you would have been suffering from alcohol poisoning...

I didn't even know they made a fake version. I was referring to "classic" absinthe, so I guess I was right about real absinthe not being available. I assumed the cruise couple were drinking the real thing, hence my surprise. Again, more stuff learned tonight!
