where do you start to buy a golf cart?

I have read that many of the FW campers have bought their own golf cart. How would one begin to look for a used one? About how much does a used one run? I am very interested now! ha!

I was one of the lucky ones! My husband bought me a brand new golf cart this past Christmas! He surprised me with it Christmas Eve, big red bow and all. We have already taken it to Ft. Wilderness and did the test drives around the loops and it worked exceptionally well considering it was paid for!! He bought ours at a local dealer for about 5 grand, but that was everything added (windshield, mirror, horn, backseat, lights and an extended top). I priced them without most of the above and the used ones started out about 3 grand. People have them for sale everywhere around here. You may want to check out dealers in Florida that may be updating their fleet and selling the used ones at a good price. That way you can pick it up and test drive while at Ft. Wilderness. Good luck on the golf cart shopping!

Carrie,

I have one for sale and I live in Virginia part time; have a weekend place at Lake Gaston. I'm asking $2,200 and mine has fold-down windshield, backseat, extended top, new paint job and lights. They have them for sale all the time up there. They run usually $2000 and up depending on the condition. A new one is kind of pricey for me considering I only use it part time. :moped: :moped:

We started considering buying one after dropping $300 on a rental the last time we were staying at FW. I have been checking on e-bay and have seen several that fit into my raange of price, just nothing close enough to where I live plus we have an ATV to sell first so that we will have room for the cart.
Most of the used ones I have found are around 2000 models, that seems to be the age that the courses want to trade for new.
A local place has about 100 of the club cars that he was selling for $1900 for electric and $2000 for gas. The you have to add on the windshield, rear seat and lights. After checking around I think I can do a few hundred better on price, most of the add on stuff I can buy online and put on myself to save a few $$ I just have to figure out which other project gets kicked to the back of the line to make time for that ... LOL

have seen some of the KEWL custom carts around FT W. Some that look like classic cars, horseless carriages, ect. I know theres a website if you GOOGLE seach "custom golf carts tampa florida". Course they are $$$$$.

Yeah, we're going to be buying one too. We could have had one paid for with all the FTW golf cart rent over the past few years! :rotfl:

I've browsed on ebay too and seen some deals. Only thing is I am going to try to get a new one, I've seen the way some people 'abuse' them at FT W and I would be afraid to get a used one.

I am a total cheapskate! Back in 2003 I went on e-bay and bought mine along with a brand new utility trailer for $1000. NOT BAD HUH?

I am sure the previous owner figured it needed major work although it ran and had all new batteries. My 13 year old (at the time) son and I made it a little summer project and replaced all the electrical solenoids, repaired the parking brake, put on new seat covers and got a top and rear seat for it. So for about $500 or so in parts and we had a good running cart. Brought it to Fort Wilderness and drove it around Dec 2003 for 12 days. That vacation paid for it.

Since then I got fancy and bought a 4 seater Gem electric car from a lady who lives in a neighboring town. I saw it sitting on her lawn for sale last June just before we were headed back to FtW. I got it licensed to use on the small streets around town where I live and can be taken to campgrounds. Its been at FtW twice.

I still have the golf cart. I need to finish the body work and paint job this spring I started before I bought the GEM and I will have that to use at smaller campgrounds we visit rather than the much bigger GEM.

Look on e-bay. I bet you find a bargain on a golf cart or Gem car too!
