I like it. I didn't know there was an issue. Is there an issue for Baby, It's Cold Outside or Santa Baby? I despise both of those.

I'm with you on those creepy tunes. The Madonna Santa Baby is the worst.

Come on, that's not fair. The "scrambled eggs" bit was a place holder, and a joke. Yesterday's lyrics were 100% written by Paul. It always bothered Lennon that people thought he had anything to do with the song, because he didn't.

2. He was a Beatle......Beatles REALLY rock.

3. Dreck is Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer...

4. It has a catchy hook an easy melody, and Paul"s voice in his prime (and mostly now as well) is a joy to listen too.

5. It's kitchy and retro and the people in the mall always sing along.

and if I needed any more reason's well I'd just pull out my thesaurus and rewrite 1 about a million different different ways, again........

and a small addition, while I do like John Lennon I don't listen to his music if I want to feel good, he's rather depressing. Granted I think he saw a lot in the world that was not happy and music was his way to try to set a change in motion, but sometimes you just want light and fun and happy, John was brilliant but he was NOT light or fun or happy.

I've actually never heard "Christmas Shoes" ... and apparently, that is a good thing!

As for the song in question, like all UK Christmas pop songs, it doesn't matter how bad it is; it only matters how many UK radio listeners in a given year want it played (or who stream or download it, these days) for whatever twisted reason. It's a bizarre tradition there; the movie "Love, Actually" even parodied it. It is a badge of honor to have the "Christmas #1" single, so every UK artist tries for one, and the general rule for winners is that schmaltz is golden, especially it is has a catchy tune, too.

Love it. That song brings back such bitter sweet memories for me. The Christmas I was in seventh grade was the year that we lost John Lennon. It was sad, but I, being twelve at the time, thoroughly enjoyed that season. I lived in New Jersey and that year it always seemed to snow. My bestie and I would spend hours in her room listening to the radio, praying for a snow day and listening to John Lennon's christmas song and Paul McCartney's wonderful Christmas time. Seems like that song was the backdrop of the season that year.

Then fast forward to 1986. I was newly enlisted and in tech school for the Air Force. The very first time we were allowed off base, we went to the mall. It was all decorated for the holidays and Wonderful Christmas Time came on. It was like a piece of home. I've had a soft spot for it ever since. Today I teach preschool and when I play that song in the classroom, the kids just love it and so do I.

Classic, it sounds like Christmas. You know "Carol Of The Bells" ain't exactly a lyrical masterpiece, but it too sounds like Christmas. I think that's what Paul was going for.
