Where do you buy your son's suit for First Holy Communion?

My son's First Holy Communion is in May, so I have a few months, but I thought I would see what my options are so I could look for the best price. Do they sell them at any of the major retailers, or do you have to go to some type of specialty store?

I have the same question...this is what I've found so far. JCPenny carries communion dresses, but not suits. I asked and they check w/store manager nope, no suits for boys, but they had plenty of girls dresses out there. I have seen them in sears in the years past. That is the only place I have actually seen them.

My aunt called me today and asked me if she wanted me to pull my cousins out to see if it will fit my son. He is built just like my 2 cousins and if it fits...we're good to go. I really don't think there will be much of a difference in style in it. My cousin would have worn it about 15 years ago. I know it's kept fine, as she's the one who has controll over my family baptism gown, that's been in the family for over 60 years!

My son had his First Communion last May and we purchased his suit at Burlington Coat Factory - I don't know if you have one of those near you or not. Ours isn't the easiest to shop in, but it was well worth the look. I think I spent like $30 or $40 on it and they even sell the shirt/tie combo.

Last May my son made his and we originally bought his suit at JCPenney but ended up returning it after my mom found a suit at AJ Wright. Not sure if they are nationwide, it's a discount store, sort of like Marshalls or TJ Max.

I remember Target sold the pieces separetly and I want to say Walmart sold them as well. I think they'll be out in the stores closer to Easter.

I also would say Burlington coat factory. They have some great suits and great prices. you might want to buy sooner than later since they don't get alot of suits and they sell out around Communion time.

I bought my son's at Macy's, but they also had them at Sears.

And depending on how you feel about Second Hand Stores, many parents sell after one use as boys outgrow outfits quickly at that age. Good luck.

I bought my son's at Target about this time three years ago.

My son wore a navy blazer and grey slacks.

Here's another vote for JCPenney. That's where I bought a suit for my son. It was on sale. We paid about $30-$40. Maybe they'll have more suits as it gets closer to Easter. Our Burlington Coat Factory had many suits as well.

My DS8 made his communion last May and we go his suit at Burlington Coat Factory. The suit looked great and I loved the fact that they sell slim(which is what DS wears), regular and husky sizes. They also do alterations (they have a tailor right in the store in the mens suit section). I think the suit cost us $60 with alterations. We were also able to get the white dress shirt and white tie there as well.

I think the problem at JCPenney's may have been that you asked for a boy's "First Communion Suit" - and that may have thrown the sales staff. It really is just a boy's suit, unless you want a white suit.

I think if you shop just before Easter at any number of department and children's stores you will have better luck...and best of all, you might find a suit on clearance just after Easter.

If you want a white suit, (less common, but not unheard of) check with a tuxedo shop or bridal shop for rental or purchase. You might even consider renting a suit, white or dark, if the price is right.

We actually went to Mens Warehouse and rented a suit. I just could not justify the cost when he would wear it once. :)

We rented my son's suit at the local tux shop. I believe it was $50-60 but that included everything. The only thing I had to buy was dress socks :)

My mom called me from TJMax to tell me they had Calvin Klein navy blue suits for $20, in size 8, 10, and 12. I told her to buy them all. Ds wore the 12, and his friends wore the 10 and 8. His tie cost twice the amount of his suit! Dd13 and dd8 each wore a dress that cost $165 (2 different sizes - dd8 is a peanut).

I wonder if white is a regional thing. My son wore white and I would say it was split 50/50 the year he made Communion. My DS6 makes his next year and is also wearing white.

We're pretty lucky here as suits are not required for boys, so both of my sons wore dress trousers, white button-downs and a tie. At both of their First Communion masses, I'd say only about 30% of the boys wore full suits.

I've had good luck getting new suits/formal wear on ebay. That's also where I got my daughter's first communion dress.
