Where do they send the retired Nikon D60's?

Since they replaced the D60 with the D3000 I was hoping to get a really good deal on the D60. So I went to Best Buy yesterday and found they they didn't do clearance sales, they just pulled them off the shelves. Does anyone know what happens to them? Will they show up at Big Lots soon?

I noticed that Best Buy took down all their Nikons this week. I went to a local camera shop today and they had the D60 for $50 off using a rebate. The D3000 was the same regular price as the D60 so I'm going to buy that instead of the D60 now. Good luck finding some bargain D60s!

I'll go for the D3000 too if I don't find a clearance sale price on the D60. I was surprised that they pulled the D60 instead of the D40, and so was the salesguy at BB. He did tell me to watch their ads because he thought the D3000 would be on sale soon and probably with an extra lens deal.

If a deal is what you are looking for, BB is not the place to go. Look online at places like B&H, Adorama, Buydig, Beach Camera, and Amazon.

Thanks. I am regularly checking those as well, but so far they are all running about the same price. I have a 10% off coupon for BB that's in the change of address kits at the post office plus a $20 off one that I got out of the Entertainment Book so that's keeping BB in the same price range. I keep hoping somewhere will have a clearance sale on the darn thing. Can you tell I'm a big bargain hunter?

Keep an eye open at Target and Walmart as well. have seen them put a camera on clearance when there are only a few left and then re-stock them at regular price just months later.

Do you watch Slick Deals? There haven't been any good deals posted on the D60 lately, but I am certain there will be in the next month or so. There is a Deals thread here that will likely be updated when/if a deal comes along.

I agree with the sentiment that Best Buy is the absolute worst place to go for a deal. Even with coupons. Best Buy should only be used as a place to test products (and for the occasional release-week Blu-ray purchases).

I can understand the dislike of Best Buy, not calling people out, just saying I understand. But the Best Buy near me has the same price as the local camera shop. I have coupons for them as well which helps out with getting a deal while the camera shop doesn't. I do love this camera shop though, the guys there are really nice and really understanding talking to a DSLR newbie who hasn't taken the plunge yet.

Well, I wouldn't buy from a local camera shop either, as the ones around here typically are overpriced, and then I would have to pay sales tax. I have no problem with Best Buy or people shopping there (in fact, I encourage it--if everyone behaved like me, the B&M retailers would close, and I'd have no place to 'test drive' intended purchases), but when people start using the words "deal" and "Best Buy" in the same sentence, I intervene. Even with a coupon, you're very unlikely to get the same type of deal at Best Buy or a local camera shop as you would with some astute online shopping.

Perfectly understandable. Online shopping is "almost" always going to be cheaper. I stay leary of online retailers that aren't big though so I'm weird.
