We are thinking of renting a car for this trip. Just wondering what company most of my fellow Canadians use. If you want to tell us why you choose that company, feel free.

TYIA:)

I use Hertz for a variety of reasons... one is that I am usually looking for a one-way rental (pick up at Orlando airport, drop off in Fort Myers near Mom's condo), so that doesn't help anybody else make a decision! Let's see, what else? Good cars and good service, and CAA affiliation gives a useful little discount.

My last trip down so many moons ago... lol... we rented from Alamo, but the cars were disgusting, not working properly you name it it happened until we decided enough was enough and we rented from Avis... Not sure where we are renting from when we go down in April as we're going to need a van as it's going to be 4 adults and 2 children.

We like to use Avis because after two bad experiences with National we needed to find a location at Orlando International Airport, so we tried them and each time has always been a good experience.

We have EA for National so will use it for the convenience whenever the prices are comparable btwn Nat'l and others. We have a ten day booking of $151 (CAD all in) and will post feedback from our rental when we return.

We get a corporate discount through Budget so we have always used them and have never had any issues.

Having said that, we're going to end up paying about $222 US for a week-long rental in November so the $151 rate I see above has me thinking. What is "EA for National"?

Thanks.

That is a great price! We are also thinking of renting for this upcomming trip, but the lowest I have found has been about $300+ for our stay Oct22-Nov2

We've mostly used Dollar the last few visits and found great rates!:thumbsup2

We've used Alamo and National, no problems with either. I like National because of the Emerald Aisle and easy pick-up. This time we have booked with Alamo because we got a very good rate but I didn't pre-pay so I can cancel if I find a better deal with someone else.

Wow, $150 for the National rental is an awesome rate.

Love National because if you're an Emerald Club card holder I believe the spouse gets added as an additional driver for no cost.

I believe Budget has a $50 add on max for spouses and Alamo is $10 a day no max.

Can anyone confirm the add on costs for spouses for each company?

We are renting again with Avis. We did back in Jan 2007 from MCO and were really happy with the service and the car. We also wanted to be able to pick up our vehicle at the airport and be able to drop it off at the Tampa airport. With 2 children under 3, we didn't want to be dealing with shuttles taking us offsite to pick up the vehicle. Our base rate this trip for a full size for 9 days is $150 USD.
Have fun planning your trip!

I've gone with Alamo at the Car Care Center on my last two trips. Haven't had a problem with the staff or the cars. They were quick to get us in as well as when we returned the car. We did have a problem when we called for a pick up - they never showed up the first time :confused3 We were staying at POFQ and thought maybe they had gone to POR instead.

Pooksma, are you staying onsite?

besides the car care centre, Dollar, is at the Regal Sun Resort (old Grosvenor) on site. They will pick you up at your resort.

For a 1 day car rental, nothing was available for us at the car care centre, but Dollar had something at the Regal Sun and it turned out to be cheaper and very convenient.

I go for the best price as well. I rented from National and Thrifty and had no issue.

Hi,
Sorry it took me a bit to answer! Emerald Aisle, it's free to sign up. Then upon arrival, you can choose a car within your category.

I was happy w / that rate too. In checking National rates, there is a space to enter online coupons and National has one for $30 or $35 off a week or longer rental. That combined w/ either the Walmart code or the travel agent code, sorry I can't remember which, gave the low rate. Or if you buy an entertainment book or have a corporate code, plug those coupon or discount numbers in (at the bottom where the empty boxes are.) HTH!

It took a few weeks of checking once a week to get the rate. Good luck!

I go with the best price which in two trips and upcoming will be Alamo. use the wal-mart contract id 430710 and the $25 off e-coupon.

I have not had any problems with Alamo, only that I now tell them I reside in the states as one time, i said i was from Canada and they used some ridiculous exchange rate to convert then charge my cc. Now I would just rather the cc company determine the exchange rate.

Also, the wal-mart code gives you a free additional driver which to me is a big deal as in Orlando, it is usually $10/ day for additional driver.
