Hi all! I have been checking out these boards for a few months now never noticed the WISH board...guess I never scrolled down far enough!
Anyway, I have been wanting to lose about 20lbs (ideally 30, but I really think that is unrealistic). I've been trying to drink more water and cut out a lot of soda and fast food. Now that the weather is getting cooler, I'd like to start walking or riding a bike - if I can find the time to do so.
So I see there are a bunch of groups, how do I find which on to join? :confused3

Someone gide me please!!! Thank you!

:welcome: ferrytale (Jessica),

Wish is a wonderful place. Did you know WISH stands for We're Inspired to Stay Healthy? Our purpose here is to support each other as we journey toward better health. Each of us are in different stages of our weight loss journeys. We are all here to help and support each other.

There are many different threads here that can help you on your journey. It sounds like you are off to great start with drinking more water, less soda, and less fast food. To lose weight we need to eat less and move more. I'd encourage you to try to find a WOE (way of eating) that will work for you and stick with it. Some people find journaling an wonderful weight loss tool. It involves writing down every single thing you eat and drink each day. With 20-30 pounds to lose exercise will be critical for you. Make time to do it almost everyday. At first it will be hard, but it will be worth it. Make an appointment with exercise and keep that appointment.

Each month there is an exercise and also a weight loss challenge thread. At the beginning of the month you set a goal of how much exercise you will do for the month or how much weight you will lose. You could join the threads and set a goal of what you could accomplish by the end of September. Members check in on the threads to report their progress and support each other.

There is the early morning exerciser group for those that want to exercise first thing in the morning and git er done.

There is the we can do it challenge for those working on a weight loss goal to achieve by the end of the year.

There is a dieting for Disney thread for those working to get in better shape before their next Disney trip.

There is a journaling challenge to encourage members to use a journal as a weight loss tool.

There is a WISH 2007 weight loss thread for anyone trying to lose this year.

We are also running our own WISH Biggest Loser challenge with Red, Black, and Blue teams. Each team has it's own weekly thread to support each other. We weigh in each Tuesday and a weekly team winner is named according to the percentage of weight lost for that week. We run weekly team challenges to help us develop healthy habits. I am the captain of the Red Team and am having a great time with the challenge. We will be working on this challenge until December 18, the season finale of the TV show. If you are interested in joining this challenge send a PM to OhMom, our team co-ordinator. Be patient with her though, she will be out of town until next week because her grandmother passed away. In the meantime I can answer questions about Biggest Loser if you would like further information. When she returns she will assign you to a team and the team captain will contact you.

Jessica, there is much support here to help you as you strive to reach your goal weight. Jump in and introduce yourself and get to know other people. Keep checking back in and posting and sharing. We are all here to help each other and you will only get out of this what you are willing to put into it.

Jessica, take baby steps and try to add healthy habits each day. Eat fresh healthy food, exercise more. I know you can lose some weight and get to a place where you are comfortable with your body. It will not be easy, but it will be worth it. Remember they say that nothing tastes as good as being thin feels.

Have a healthy day!

Thanks Brenda, that's a lot of info to digest! My biggest problem is probably the exercise - I gained the weight after I had my son and stopped dancing on a regular basis, and just haven't been able to get into any type of exercise routine. I've tried getting DH involved with me to start walking or something in the evenings, but it hasn't worked. Hopefully I'll find some support & encouragement here!
Looks like I've got some research to do on teams and such!

Welcome to WISH Jessica!

I am so glad you have found us! :yay:

Look around, if you find a thread that might interest you, join in. All are welcome and everyone is supportive for certain. WE depend on each other for the support and encouragement as we journey to finding that healthier life style.

My first suggestion is to continue with your desire. You can do this! Figure out a small goal and work toward that, be it drink an extra glass of water, or take a few extra steps by parking a little farther from that entry/exit door in the parking lot. As you begin to find ways to increase your movement think of something you can do to make a healthier eating choice.

Small steps result in big changes. You can do it!

Stick around and let us help you while you help us.

Another thing that jumped out at me is if your husband is not able to get out and do some of the things with you, have him take care of the little one while you go for a walk. I'm sure he would love it!

Let us know what you are doing as you make your way.

Keep on keepin' on!

:cheer2: :cheer2:

I am in the same position Jessica, I have been on the Dis for YEARS and never noticed this part of the forum. I need to loose about 50 pounts, I have lost five so far. I have a friend to walk with, we try to make it at least three times a week, we walk about 4 miles of very steep roads.
I was just wondering where do you begin to jump in herewhen I saw your thread.
I enjoy exercise, I am very busy though, we have two businesses and four kids, but I enjoy it so it is easier to make time. My problem is food and SODA. Pepsi is probably my biggest problem, something I drank a lot of since childhoon and it is like a comfort food for me.

Welcome.. from another WISH newbie!! :) I think this forum is going to be a huge help for me, as when i am feeling "munchie", i can come right on here, and someone can stop me!! LOL ;)

Giving up the soda is not as difficult as you think...I've been soda-free for eight years now, and I really don't miss it at all. Reducing the calories you take in via beverages is a great place to start...you'd probably be shocked at the proportion of calories you drink...In addition to soda, think about what else you drink and how you can make changes. I limit myself to water, unsweetened ice tea, skim milk and the occasional glass of red wine or light beer (OK, and maybe a margarita when in Orlando!)

Best of luck!

Thanks! DS quit soda on his own a year and a half now, he only drinks iced tea, water and milk now, so I know it can be done. I am going to try tracking my calories to see if that helps with my motivation.

I agree, soda (or any high sugar drink) is a HUGE problem, once you stop that, you will notice a difference alone! I quit soda last january. Yes, there were days that i missed it. but once i got past it, i didn't crave it at all - i didn't allow myself ANY soda - reg. or DIET. None at all. I just didn't trust myself with diet -- LOL
I drank TONS of water, and those lil' sugar free individual Crystal Light water bottle packets really helped, i threw a bunch in my purse, and they were my new best friends.

Now, it's not soda i am addicted to , but Coffee Milk. Yes, it's a RI thing.. LOL and this place right near my work makes the BEST. I get one everyday on my way to work - they see me coming and have it ready.. LOL Seriously. That's a bad sign.. ;) But, it's probably about 20 oz. and i am sure they are using whole milk - which is why it tastes so great.. and the coffee syrup i am sure is high in sugar. But, man.......... they are so good!!!
I might have to just buy a pint of the syrup, which they sell, and then keep skim milk at my shop, for when i get a craving,
I don't know what else to do.. i am seriously addicted to these things!!

I appreciate the warm welcomes! Sorry I didn't respond for a few days, I don't always get to post everyday.
I am currently working on cutting out sodas too, but now found myself addicted to the McDonald's sweet tea - but I only get one and then refill the cup with water for the rest of the day...I know it's not the best, but it's a start.
Thanks for the suggestions, keep them & the support coming!

Jessica
