I thought it would be easy to find reasonably priced suits for little boys. Gosh was I wrong. I have 2 sons (4 & 5) and I can't believe I have to shell out about $60+ each for a suit they'll wear once or twice.

Can anyone help? THANKS in advance!

have you looked at Sears, Penney's, Kohls, second hand stores like once upon a child or a sport coat and pants instead of a suit

For last year's cruise, I found the nicest dress outfit for my little boy (7 yrs) at Kmart, of all places. It was dress slacks, high-collar dress shirt with studs, and a dress vest. Very, very sharp looking. He would have been uncomfortable and fidgety in a coat anyway, and the whole outfit was like $15. He has grown so much since last cruise -- I'm hoping I can find another one like that for the next cruise!

1) Ask your children's friends' parents if they have a jacket you can borrow. Everybody I asked had no problem (except they didn't fit..my ds is a husky) because their son hardly wears it.

2) Check out any children's consignment stores. You may get lucky with the right size and a good price. Also, I have seen some extremely nice ones that were a bit $$ but the lady said you can always bring it back to sell if you don't think you will have a need for it again.

3) JC Penny has some. I'm thinking of going this route since my ds will make his first communion this coming spring. I am hoping to get one of those 25-30% off coupons for jcpenny.com soon and will order it that way. Again, you can sell an a consignment store. (If I get a coupon soon I will post the code here)

4) I looked on e-bay but with son being a husky to much risk with size. But if your children are average sizes it may be an option.

I am planning on getting a dark blue jacket. For informal night he can wear it with khaki pants and polo shirt and formal night with dark blue pants, shirt and tie.

Can't wait to play dress up with the kids.

I bought my oldest ds a sport coat for 95 cents at a local thrift store. Also bought my youngest ds a suit at AmVets for $10. Middle ds was a problem though because at that time he was "in between" sizes so I had to shell out about $50 for a suit at Mervyns. HTH

I have had great luck on ebay. Have purchased two suits for my son and both were $10 plus shipping. Both suits were in mint condition and the buyer paid at least $70 for them.

Thanks everyone!
Fortunately I've got the time to look, but I couldn't believe how hard it was to find something.

JCPenny seems to sell the blazer and pants separately (total for both would range about 55-60)

I've searched through the second hand stores over the past few weeks but they tell me they only take casual clothes since those are what move the most.

I was wondering about Burlington. I'll check them out. I have found some cute suits on some other websites, but it will cost me 45+.

I also forgot to mention that I'm being picky. My DH will be wearing a black suit (tie and shirt for formal night and mock tshirt for semi-formal night). So I thought I could dress the boys to look like their daddy. Guess this might also be making my search hard. BUT THEY WOULD LOOK SO CUTE!!!

And best of all - I tried on an old (very small) suit on the boys the other night and they loved walking around showing everyone (including the very cute neighbor girl) how "handsome" they were. So, I'm brainwashing them now to wear a suit for dinner on the cruise!

I noticed you are not going for a while, in the fall before thanksgiving like the mid-end of Oct. they always have a GREAT sale on kid suits (pants/jacket both) I know this as we cruise each December and the darn kid keeps growing so no suit makes it to the next year, with the coupon they have in the paper we get him a suit for about 35-40.00 and I am talking a NICE suit. Wait for the sales in the fall and you will be all set.

you might even want to post on the community board the sizes you are looking for. We end up giving DS's to goodwill each year as he outgrows them (he only wears them twice and then off they go :( ) If your children were closer to his age I would happilly give it to you- he is ten and a half though so it would not work. Maybe offer to pay the shipping and you might get a taker.

Definately try Burlington Coat Factory. If you do not have one
locally then you can shop on the web @ www.coat.com

They have a great selection at great prices.

Good luck !!!

Thanks for the Burlington link. We do have one close by so I will check them out, but clearly the suits on the website are so much better than what I can find.

I'll also hold out and keep watching JCPenny.

Can we say - BIG TIME PLANNER!

If my husband would let me, I'm sure I'd be getting the suitcases out tomorrow to start packing! Wish there was a pill for patience!!

If you want brand new, Burlington Coat Factory has great prices. Otherwise, go used (consignment, thrift store or garage sale) or borrowed if your boys won't wear the suits again.

I've discovered getting ALL my kids clothes thru it. Sometimes you can even buy in LOTS>

You must consider Shipping Costs, and don't bid til the very last minute!

I find I can really specify Brands, Colors, Sizes, etc. and usually find some really cute stuff!

Bid for them atleast 3 weeks before your cruise leaves.

You've all been so helpful. Maybe because I don't live near a big city, I'm having this trouble with the consignment stores and other department stores. I get the impression not many people put their boys in suits around my house.

Over the lunch hour today I found great navy blue blazers for my two DSs on clearnace at Gap Kids for $19.97!
