What is in walking distance from OKW? and what are the view choices?

Thanks in advance.
Paula

Views include golf course, water (ponds or canal) and woods. Most are either water or golf views.

Behind bldg 55 is a paved walkway to DD and/or DI. It is a pleasant stroll along the canal and golf course (without being ON the golf course.)

Some have reported a path to PO, but it does require crossing a very busy roadway with lots of cars and buses and then following a grassy,thru-the-woods trail which has been blazed by construction workers while on the job in the area. It is NOT a marked trail and certainly not on any map of WDW.

Enjoy the DI/DD walkway and the great views! :)

Nothing really close or worthwhile. Port Orleans is the closest and their food prices are cheaper then OKW's.You can also walk towards DD,but I don't think it's possible to get there. With all the walking you do in the parks, why would you want to do more :-)

Yes, the walkway gets you to DD. Ends up near CdS and House of Blues. Takes about 13 minutes to walk. Better than waiting for a bus anytime!

The walkway does go all the way to DI and DD. We have walked it many times.

When you reach the practice green- a left will take you across the bridge to DI and if you bear right, you will end up on the sidewalk around the DD/WS parking area- which leads to Cirque, HoB and DQ. Both options are paved the entire way.

Walkway to DD is much faster than the bus!!

I love the Conch Flats Trail to DD... I run on it every trip we take to OKW.

But is it really paved the whole way? I thought I remember part of it being like gravel... or maybe it was just that the paving had broken down and there were a lot of loose rocks on it.

It makes little difference unless you're pushing a stroller... I'm not sure I'd want to push an ordinary baby stroller all the way on that path.

Just FYI for parents out there...

Also, the trail isn't lit (right?) so it's a good walkway to DD before sunset but you'll probably want to catch the bus home at night.

It was all paved when we were there in December. Didn't look new either. We usually walk there and take the pontoon back if it is dark on the return trip. The walkway is not lighted.

Wouldn't it be nice to have gold carts available for rental at OKW like they are at the DI? Sure would make going to DD and getting around OKW more fun (and we'll all need them anyway by 2042! :D )

I thought you could get to DD by boat from OKW. Am I mistaken or is it just a huge walk to catch it?

The walkway is paved and is lighted from the DI Treehouse bridge to DD. It is not lit between OKW and the bridge. (I would NOT advise the path after dark.)

The boat leaves from the marina at Hospitality House and is easily accessed from within the resort.
The walkway just provides another option.

BOTH pontoon boat and walkway are faster than the bus. We usually walk to DD and take pontoon back. :)

Thanks for the information - - we make our first OKW visit next November (BWV is our home) and I am already feeling like an insider. Can't wait!!

Is the path appropriate for bicycles?

YES, our carts should be solid gold! ;) :D

Yes, it is fine for bikes! There also used to be a fitness trail incorporated into the walkway- with a number of stations set up along the way. It was removed a couple of years ago- I assume for lack of use.
Occasionally you may encounter a golf cart (either maintenance or Treehouse guest) on the walkway- but it does NOT conflict with the course cart path, so you are never close enough to the course to be a nuisance. Enjoy!
