So my wife and I will be taking our first trip to WDW in 2017! And we are going to get a package that includes the dining plan, but we have no experience with this beast. So we are beginning our research so as to maximize our enjoyment of this aspect of Disney (thank you God!). Tonight, my wife asked, "What are people's 'Must have' sit down meals in the park/resorts?" We are Disneyland vets, but we can appreciate Disney World has many more options and we want to target our efforts. Thank you in advance:D

We always book TS at the resorts as our park time is usually only an hour or two in the morning with (maybe) an hour or two later in the evening. We spend more time out of the parks as we enjoy resort time, shopping, etc and find it easier to plan ADRs at a resort vs a park since we aren't usually in a park around dinner time (or early morning as we aren't rope drop people). With that said, a few of our favorites are:

Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge
Cape May Cafe at Beach Club
Artist Point at Wilderness Lodge
Yachtsman Steakhouse at Yacht Club

Have fun planning :).

Since you have some time, might I suggest you hop back over on the main restaurant forum and start perusing the Disney Dining Reviews? I think the reports and pictures will help you decide where YOU want to eat. Everyone is different and has different expectations and experiences. People with kids may have different favorites than those without. Younger/older. Foodie/just want a good meal.

Will do sharonabe! Great advice:D

'Ohana Dinner - a must for us each visit. We also enjoy breakfast here.
Teppan Edo
50's Prime Time
Liberty Tree Tavern
Hoop Dee Doo Review - a new fave for our family

after our last trip 2 weeks ago I would say Tusker House breakfast and Via Napoli

My favorites are 'Ohana (breakfast and dinner), Chefs de France (lunch), and 1900 Park Fare (breakfast). I try to plan meals in the park we will be in or close to it. I also think the Cinderella's Royal Table and Be Our Guest are great for unique castle experiences.

We have come to love and repeat Yak and Yeti lunches at AK. They work out great for us on the DDP. We also really enjoy breakfast at CP, and try to schedule it before the park opens. This makes a great use of 1 TS credit and provides more (and better) food than some other breakfast options.

Other people have also suggested many of our favorites. Liberty Tree is a great MK lunch, Boma is excpetional, and Ohana has lots of great food at dinner too.

I find my "must-do" list keeps growing after each trip... Disney dining is addicting!

Generally most of the character meals (with the exception of the princess ones, which my DS is not into at all) are must do for us because of the experience, so we do 7 or 8 of them every trip. If I also factor in the enjoyment of the food, then I would put Garden Grill, Ohana breakfast and Cape may breakfast at the top of the character meal list.

Non character meals on our list:

Sci-Fi
Coral Reef
Whispering Canyon
