Where are the Sky Caps at Orlando International Airport?

IF you need help with your bags, why not drop them off at curbside check-in where there are PLENTY of skycaps and then return the rental car?

AFAIK, all of Tampa's rental lots are offsite, so you have to bus to the terminal. Are you saying that a Skycap rode on the bus with you from the rental lot to the terminal at TPA?

Skycaps take bags out to the rental garage at MCO all the time. If you look near the tunnel entrance you can find them going back inside.

My family has a rule. If you can't manage it yourself, you have to leave it at home.

Excellent rule and I wish that more would follow the rule. Unless one has some type of mobility issue it shouldn't require outside assistance to manage the basics.

It is an excellent rule for a number of reasons beyond the space issue. My kids are allowed one suitcase and one backpack. Period. This allows them to pull their own suitcase AND have a hand free for using handrails on escalators, moving walkways, etc. If they are struggling to maintain control of their luggage it becomes a hazard to themselves and those who may be unlucky enough to be riding the escalator below them. We don't always have a way of knowing what the situation may be in a destination airport or resort, so if we need to haul our bags ourselves, we are fully able to do so without struggle.

Hmm now THAT I've never seen - a sky cap on the rental bus. Granted I usually use Hertz which is more geared towards business travellers, and I have never needed the service of a skycap to manage my luggage, so I am not actively searching for one, but I DO think that would be odd.

Good question - maybe the OP can clarify for us.

Tampa has some rental car places onsite, although most are off site. We always check our luggage curbside and then return the rental car, and just carry our carry-ons to the gate.

Ok then how come they don't have them when you return your rental car & help you take them to your Airlines check in counter, just like they have it at Tampa International Airport, which was the main reason I started this thread.

They do. We had a skycap help us get from the National garage down to JetBlue checkin, with a mountain of bags, this past October.

I'm with the "everybody manage their own bag" crowd normally, but we had two seniors with us who were glad of the help.

They do and I have used them every time I have returned a car.

Not sure, however, you would think because one airport has the service another will.

Sky Caps Are deployed at the curbside area, not the car rental return area. They are contracted by each airline, not by the rental car companies. Perhaps you're a bit confused as to the nature of the sky cap. I have been to Tampa, but I never use sky caps as I am required to check in with a counter agent, so I can't tell you how far their domain extends... clearly further than any other aiport in the US... or was it an actual sky cap? Perhaps we'll never know...

They are in the car return areas of MCO. They are independants, not sure who contracted them, but, they are there and they are also available at the bus drop off for ME.

WOW, that would be quite the service. :)

I have definitely rented a car onsite at TPA. It was either Dollar or Budget, and I got a cherry red Mustang rag top. It was the last Saturday in April in 2004. :thumbsup2

I too have rented vehicles onsite at TPA. Last time was Dollar, but I did not get anything fancy like ducklite.

DH wasn't with me on that trip, I was meeting with the builder about the house. DH didn't know what I had gotten for a rental until our builders rep dimed me out a few weeks later. :scared: :headache:

We use skycaps all the time at MCO. This past OCT when we got off our DME bus at MCO had one right there for the 5 of us. He took our bags up to the curbside check-in for SW.
I know if I were one I wouldn't be at the rental car area till I was called.

they are there. I had to asked the people I was returning the car to for help to find one and they did - not a problem.

I can say that in September (06) I returned a rental car with National and as I was getting my stuff out of the car a sky cap appeared and asked if I would like help. I took him up on the offer and it was such a blessing because I bypassed the line at the check-in counter to get my ticket printed and he hauled my luggage over to the scanner for me.

Same here, its been a few trips ago, and I believe I was actually renting with Avis...

Correcting the fact that someone said Tampa International Airport has no rental car companies inside the Airport.

The poster said AFAIK (As far as I know) and several posters already indicated that some of the agencies are located in the airport. There wasn't any reason to correct the poster.
