Today my family & I arrived home from Clearwater Beach & when we returned our rental from Avis at the Tampa International Airport, we had a Sky Cap take our bags to the Westjet check in counter. Anyway I was wondering how come they don't have Sky Caps at Orlando Internationl Airport?

Just because you've never seen them doesn't mean they don't exist.

For your information the last time we flew out of Orlando International Airport, we asked the guy at Avis who was checking our rental car when we returned it for a Sky Cap to help us with our bags. He said that they did not have any, so that is how I know they are not at Orlando International Airport, so they do not exist there.

Ok then how come they don't have them when you return your rental car & help you take them to your Airlines check in counter, just like they have it at Tampa International Airport, which was the main reason I started this thread.

I rent a car at least twice a month and return my car at various airports around North America. I have never seen a skycap in the car rental return area. One has to get oneself from the rental return area to the curbside check in area oneself.

Having said that, I've never been to Tampa airport. Perhaps it is a smaller airport and/or the rental return is right by the curbside check in areas.

But there are definitely skycaps at MCO.

Sky Caps Are deployed at the curbside area, not the car rental return area. They are contracted by each airline, not by the rental car companies. Perhaps you're a bit confused as to the nature of the sky cap. I have been to Tampa, but I never use sky caps as I am required to check in with a counter agent, so I can't tell you how far their domain extends... clearly further than any other aiport in the US... or was it an actual sky cap? Perhaps we'll never know...

We've used a Sky Cap when returning a car a couple of times at Orlando. Most of the time there are a couple in the area and sometimes not. The last time I saw one (well there were 2 of them there) was while returning an Alamo vehicle on December 26th 2006. They were both walking down the line of cars asking if anyone needed a Sky Cap. I've also seen them when returning Budget & Dollar vehicles.

There are skycaps at MCO. I am sure they make more money if they are at curbside so that is why you don't see many in the car rental return area.

The guy lied because he didn't want to take the time to call one for you! If you were really inconvienced by this call Avis and complain! To get a skycap at the rental car locations they have to be requested. I have seen them be called and show up. Give yourself a few extra minutes.

I travel light enough that I don't need help with my bags. My family has a rule. If you can't manage it yourself, you have to leave it at home.

If for some reason I had to take extra baggage due to a work situation or something, I'd do a curbside check-in, then return the car.

Probably not enough skycap customers to justify stationing skycaps at the car rental return area.

It's common to hear a page for a skycap at the rental area. As others have posted the rental car employee can have a skycap paged.

I'm not sure why Tampa has the skycaps waiting for customers, probably just a reflection of the number of passengers who use a skycap.

I can say that in September (06) I returned a rental car with National and as I was getting my stuff out of the car a sky cap appeared and asked if I would like help. I took him up on the offer and it was such a blessing because I bypassed the line at the check-in counter to get my ticket printed and he hauled my luggage over to the scanner for me.

We were approached by a sky cap at the National car rental return at MCO a cople trips ago. I was surprised. We declined, we can deal wiht our own load.

herc.

When you get off the ME bus, they are all over the place! We were the last ones off the bus in September and the last skycap was helping someone else and said he would send another one out to help us. Within 3 minutes, the man came out. Very nice too.....He used to live in Buffalo, so we had a wonderful conversation on the way up to the SW counters. :)
