Where are the Boys? At Home! A Girls Only Trip Report! Updated 3/11

I need someone to bring to my senses!

I got an email from Southwest Airlines today and I can get roundtrip airfare to Orlando for $159!! I'm contemplating grabbing my Mom and making a quick adults only trip and celebrating my birthday and mother's day. I'm thinking about May 14-17. I'd get to see the Flower and Garden Festival which I've always wanted to do. If we stayed at POP again we could do a 4 day park pass and DDP for right at $1000 plus airfare.

Am I crazy? :sad2:

I say go for it !!!

I am going for the Flower and Garden festival for the first time ever this year in April, taking a quick one day trip March 19th to see David Cassidy during the Flower Power concert series

I think that sounds like a great idea & deal. You should go for it! Of course, most of us here are fellow Disney addicts so you might not be getting the most sound advice. :rotfl:

I did think of that after I posted. I think I subconsciously want to be persuaded. :rotfl2:

Thanks for making me laugh this morning. :)

My crazy thoughts continue to evolve. I talked to my Mom last night and realized that my parents are taking my DD on a trip with them at the end of May. They're planning on being gone for about 1 1/2 weeks........wouldn't this be a great time to steal DS away from make up snow days and play before extended school year starts for him???? I think it might! I've been thinking about taking him on a trip anyway, and maybe we could squeeze in a couple days at the beach as well.

I can't wait till my boss gets back from his vacation to talk over some potential dates with him, but I'm pretty sure we could work something out around Memorial Day. :thumbsup2

This is always how a trip starts for me.

Well, I guess I'm now writing a pre-trip report in the middle of my trip report! I am officially booking a trip for May 30-June 3, 2010! :yay:

I'm taking DS to WDW just the two of us. I'm so excited.! I am renting points to stay at OKW in a studio. :woohoo: This will be perfect because I really need a small kitchen for my picky eater. This will make breakfast and snacks so much easier. I can't wait to try one of the DVC resorts (maybe one of these years I'll be able to talk myself into a purchase!)

I guess I need to get a countdown for my signature. Promise I'll get back to the TR over the weekend.

Wonderful news. You're going to have a great time! It's always so nice when you get to have quality time with one child at a time. Enjoy & tell us all about it!

Thanks. It really is so much easier to plan a trip with just one of them. They are so different in their schedules and personalities that it is much simpler to not try and match their schedules. :) It also makes it much simpler for DS because there are certain attractions that he won't do because of his sensory issues that are musts for DD.

Can't wait to try out a new resort either, I've been so wanting to do one of the DVC resorts!

Well, I've had a lot going on since I managed to post last. I finally have our May trip locked up, we're going May 30 - June 4, 2010. We're staying at OKW in a studio and we have plane tickets! I am so excited to get to runaway with Jonathan for a couple of days!

But I have to finish this trip first:

Day 4
Monday, November 30

We woke up about 8:30am and slowly started to get ready. We headed to breakfast where we all got our usual and made it to the buses to DHS about 10:30am. We got to DHS about 10:50am and I took DN to grab fastpasses for TSM while DGM, DSil and DD got a stroller. I was really surprised that there were still fastpasses available for TSM. Our return time was 4:30pm, so we were going to use them when we came back that night for the Osborne Lights.

We headed to the Great Movie Ride and met up with everyone else. The wait time was posted at 10min. so we headed in. After that we headed over to the Beauty and the Beast stage show. The girls really enjoyed this one.

After a potty break and an encounter with someone wearing an entire bottle of perfume, :sad2: we were on a quest for a Frozen Coke. Amelia really wanted one and they had taken them out of the POP food court, so I had promised her we would get one at one of the parks. We found a stand over near TSM that had what we wanted so we got a couple of frozen cokes and some popcorn to split. After that we were so near The Backlot Tour we decided to do that next. We waited about 15 minutes before our tour started. As we were exiting from there we passed by Mike and Sully. We went around and got in line to see them. The little boy in front of us were hysterial. He was very nervous of Sully and wouldn’t go near him. Sully went over to Boo's door and laid his head on the door and cried. It didn’t work, the kid still wouldn’t go hear him.

While we were in line DGM found the cutest Toy Story shirt for DS. After we saw Mike and Sully we stopped by the shop where DGM got the shirt. I found a bucket of aliens I thought DS would like and Amelia found a Baby Sully she just had to have. One stuffed animal from every park seemed to be our theme for the trip.;) After making our purchases we headed to the HISTK playground.

DGM headed to find a corndog which the girls proceeded to “share.” We had decided we weren’t going to heat a full lunch because we had early dinner reservations at Capt’n Jack’s at DTD and we had had a late breakfast. That decision would come back to haunt us.

After the girls played for a bit we decided to head over to see VOTLM. We had about 20 min before the next show so we did a bit of looking in the shops around there. We headed into the queue with about 10 min. left. After the show we thought we might head back to the resort to rest for a bit before dinner.

As we headed to the front we ran into the Block Party Parade. We managed to get a great place right in front, so we decided to watch the parade. Woody and Jessie stopped right in front of us and Amelia was having a great time.

At one point I looked around to say something to my DN and DSil and they weren’t next to me anymore. At the end of the Parade I went and found my Mom and she said that DN had a really bad headache and had to escape the noise of the parade. About that time my DSil and DN showed back up and Rachel was almost in tears. We started thinking about it and realized that all the kids had eaten since breakfast was a bit of popcorn and one or two bites of a corn dog. :scared1: We decided to grab some food to see if that helped. We ended up getting DN a pretzel dog, chips, drink and ice cream for dessert (which Amelia was happy to eat.) That seemed to do the trick and everyone was soon feeling better.

This is where I made my worst navigational move of the trip. I apparently lost my ability to read a map this day, because every time I looked at the park map I couldn’t seem to get my bearings. :confused3 Instead of heading out of the park I managed to steer us over towards Star Wars while following the end of the parade. I knew something couldn’t be right, because I kept commenting on how stupid it was to block the park entrance with a parade (oh my.) Since I pride myself on my navigational abilities I felt about 2 feet tall when I realized where I had steered us.

So, we finally got headed in the right direction and got to the front of the park. We had to wait a few minutes for a bus. As you can see we were all feeling a bit tired by this point:

By the time we caught a bus back to POP and got back to our room it was after 4pm. We really wanted to rest a bit before heading to DTD. Our dinner reservation was for 5:15pm so I tried calling and changing our time. Unfortunately they didn’t have anything later that that, so we decided to rest for a few minutes before getting ready for dinner.

Up next: DTD, Capt’n Jack’s and The Osborne Lights

Can't wait to read more! We are also planning on a 'right after Thanksgiving' trip this year!! :) So exciting to hear all about the crowd level and wait times that you had!

Thanks! It's a wonderful time of year to go. My biggest advice is to follow TGM for advice on which park to visit which day, this made all the difference for us. Make sure to use your FP too!

Great update. My DD had to have a stuffed animal in every park we went to too! And she's already planning which ones to buy for our Aug trip. What is it about stuffed animals! We have 3 huge bins full! I've never had a frozen coke, are they really thtat good? Everyone seems to rave about them. I think maybe it's DHS because last time we were there I kept getting turned around too.
Can't wait to hear more.

Thanks. She was planning her next purchases as we were in the parks! The frozen cokes are very refreshing. They are also a big treat, because we only get them on trips. I think that was why we were so disappointed that they weren't in the food court anymore. Glad to hear that it's the park and not me. ;) You would think the smallest park would be the easiest to navigate.

What is TGM? Last time we went to Disney I used the Unofficial Guide and LOVED it!

Tour Guide Mike. I've used him and the unofficial guide and I think they both have great information! What I like about TGM over the Unofficial Guide is that TGM breaks out the best park by day and night (if you like to park hop). He also has lots of touring articles and information on the best places to view parades and fireworks from. We found it very useful and a big timesaver.

While I like to do research for my trips and could have probably tracked down a lot of the info on my own, it was very nice to have one (or two) places to go to get all of the info.

There are quite a few threads over on the Theme Parks Attractions Strategies forum that talk about TGM vs. The Unofficial Guide. By the way, TGM is a sponsor of the forum. :)

Hope you are having a good time with your son. Now you have to do 2 TR's, or just add onto this one and add to your title.
