Well, I’ve lurked for over a year and I’ve really enjoyed reading the different TRs so…. I’ve decided to write my own! Please be gentle with a first time writer :)

The Cast –

Melissa - Long time Disney fanatic, who is trying to pass that love to my DS (7) and DD (5)!
DD (5) – Disney fan in the making, lover of all thrill rides, this is her 3rd Disney trip, 2nd to the World
DGM – Lover of all things Disney (where else would I get it :goodvibes)
DSIL – Making up for last trip six years ago (The flu hit on Dumbo :scared1:)
DN (10) – Just the perfect age for a Disney trip, not a fan of fast or hilly rides!

So, how did this girls only trip become a reality you ask? Well, it started innocently enough. My work was having a silent auction back at the end of Sept. and low and behold someone had put up a weeks stay in Orlando. Hmmmm I thought…..Could I??? No, I could get a much cheaper rate on my own, and besides, we were just there in Jan. 2009 (1st trip for the kids to WDW, with all four grandparents along for the ride).

Well, what should show up in my email the very next day? A special offer from Disney (values from $59 a night!!!) Wait, maybe we could do a trip. Hmmmm, how do I talk myself into a second trip in one year? Apparently it’s not enough for me to just say “Hey, I want to go again!” :rotfl:

Well, it’s been a rough couple of years around my house. My DH passed away two years ago and it’s been difficult to say the least. Add to that a DS who has autism and while he is doing very well, there are still challenges every day. DGM has had a rough 1 ½ years health wise and is finally on the mend……wait I’ve got it!!

DGM had to cancel her April 08 plans to go with me and DD to Disneyland for my DD’s first trip because of her health. Could we do the girls’ trip we didn’t get to do in April ’08? I’ve always wanted to go and see the holiday decorations and I’ve wanted to take my DD on a trip for some Mommy and Me time (it’s hard being the sibling of a special needs child!) Maybe this could work!

I had an even better idea….let’s invite DSIL and DN too!! DD and DN had a wonderful time this summer when DN came to see us for two weeks.

So, I pitch this idea to DGM, thinking she’ll say "NO, it’s too close to Thanksgiving and Christmas." But then…. she says, “Oh, how perfect, let’s do it!” YEAH……Trip on!

Up next: We need a plan!

Hello Melissa!
I love taking an all girls' trip to WDW. I have taken so many trips there under different circumstances, but the "all girls" is the winner. I'm in.princess:

Yeah, I have a reader! :welcome:

I love the girls only trips too...even with a 5 year old they're so much more relaxed than when you bring everyone :)

So know we have a trip, but we need a plan (my favorite part!!)

First major decision, when do we want to go? We went back and forth between mid-November, which has much lower crowds and some holiday decorations up, or right after Thanksgiving, when all of the holiday magic is in full swing. We (me) finally decided on Nov. 27-Dec. 2. We even added an extra day because airfare was so much cheaper on the Friday after Thanksgiving vs. the Saturday after Thanksgiving….YEAH!!! (It’s so much fun to find a good excuse to add days to a trip)

We decided to stay at POP Century because we really wanted to be on property and the cost of a value room was the whole way I got this trip approved in the first place! We loved POP after staying there for one night back in January 2009.

DGM really wanted to try the DDP because we didn’t really eat much on property during our last trip (between DS, pickiest eater on the planet, and my In-Laws who are eat at the timeshare folk we really didn’t get to eat like we prefer on our last vacation.) I should clarify this statement, it sounds like I'm bashing my in-laws and I'm not. It's fine to eat at home on vacation, but for my family food it part of the vacation experience. We came home in January feeling like we had missed out on part of our vacation because we only ate out at the parks for a nice meal one time.

Well, nothing like waiting till the last minute to try and plan a trip to the world and try to get ADRs for the restaurants we wanted. Miracle of Miracles, we managed to get almost everything we wanted (this trip was meant to be).:banana:

My in-laws were even up for coming for Thanksgiving and were excited to be getting some quality one-on-one time with DS! I’m not sure my DMIL quite understood why I wanted to go back to Disney so soon without the whole family :confused3, but that’s okay. I just had to get over my own guilty feelings for not taking DS with us. But, I’ve been trying to do at least one trip every year with just my DD so we gets some quality time just us and she can do everything she wants to do for a change (there is a lot of compromise with a special needs sibling).

Can I just say…thanks to TGM! I used his site for the first time this trip and I got rave reviews for the plan that eventually came together! So , what did we finally decide? Here’s the plan:

Fri. Nov. 27: Arrive POP 3:30pm, MK for dinner (The Plaza), Spectro and Wishes
Sat. Nov. 28: Epcot, Lunch Coral Reef, Dinner Chefs de France, Illuminations
Sun. Nov. 29: MK, Tea at the Grand Floridian
Mon. Nov. 30: DHS, DTD Dinner Cap’n Jack’s, Osbourne Family Lights
Tues. Dec. 1: DSIL & DN head home, MK, Lunch Tony’s
Wed. Dec. 2: Home

So, did things go as planned? Stay tuned to find out…..w/pictures I promise!

Day 1 Part 1: Are We There YET?
Friday, Nov. 27, 2009

YAY, the day finally arrived. :yay: It was so exciting because we had only told DD that we were going on a trip, but not where. I didn’t tell her about the trip at all until a week before (I wouldn’t have told her then either, but I was worried she would be upset about leaving her Nonna and Papa, since she only gets to see them every couple of months.)

We packed up the van for the trip to the airport and DGM pulls out this little Mickey book. “Do you know where we’re going”, she asks? DD is looking a bit confused and I’m dying to tell, so I bust out with “DisneyWorld!” She was all excited:

Disney2009002.jpg

On the way to the airport she leans over and tells DGM “I knew that’s where we were going, I told Grandpa earlier this week!” Sure enough, she had told my Dad on Monday that’s where she thought we were going!

So, we get to the Kansas City airport about 9am, two whole hours ahead of our flight! (My Dad insists on being that early, even though we live in a very small market). We headed right to the AirTran counter to check our bags. As we’re standing there we hear another agent tell the family next to us that their flight to Orlando isn’t leaving until about 1pm. My Mom and I looked at each other and then said nah…..not us, the board still says on time and our ticket agent didn’t mention anything to us. So we go and find a little sit down restaurant for breakfast. We get done eating (nothing to write home about) and head to the gate a little after 10:00am. Once we made it through security the board still showed us as on time for an 11:10am departure but there was a lot of grumbling in the gate area. Uh oh, I spot that other family from the ticket counter at our gate

Sure enough, we get an announcement that our plane won’t arrive until about 12:30pm!!! I was so mad, they just stole 2 ½ hours of my vacation! I’m also really glad I changed our dinner reservations for that night from 6:15pm to 7:15pm. I’m not sure what prompted me to do this a couple of weeks ago, but at least I won’t be stressing about it the whole flight.

While we’re waiting to board my Mom slips away to call my DSIL to let her know we’ll be late. My DSIL and DN are driving down to Orlando from SC. This is another surprise for my DD. I can’t wait to see her face when she sees her cousin :goodvibes

So we finally get on the plane about 12:45p.m. and I’m so ready to get out of Kansas City! We ended up having the best flight. One of the flight attendants took a shine to Amelia and kept coming by. He brought her cookies and he stopped by to ask her if she was going to WDW. He came by another time to ask her if she wanted earphones for the Disney Channel and she says “NO” as only a redhead can. He told us that his little sister is a redhead and the attitude doesn’t get any better :lmao: Later he brought her a package of shortbread and told us he just kept coming up with things to ask her so he could hear her say “NO” with that attitude. He really made the flight enjoyable.

We finally landed in Orlando about 2 hours late around 4:45p.m. We headed down to Magical Express and walked right on our bus, YEAH! Now I feel like I’m on vacation!!! Even better, we left about 2 minute later. We made one stop at CBR and then we saw:

Disney2009003.jpg

We headed into the lobby and got in the Online Checkin line and there was only 1 person in front of us. As we’re waiting my DSIL and DN come walking into the lobby. Amelia wasn’t sure what to think for a minute, we had to tell her that they were staying and spending the trip with us and then she got really excited!

Even better, we got checked in right away and we got all of our requests, connecting rooms close to Classic Hall. We were in the 60’s building, close to the elevator on the 4th floor facing the lake. It was a wonderful, peaceful location, and we even had a suprise:

Disney2009009.jpg

Disney2009008.jpg

We dropped our bags and changed our clothes. We decided to head to the park so we’d be on time for our 7:15pm dinner reservation at The Plaza.

Up next……Day 1 Part 2:Dinner, a parade and fireworks?

Day 1 Part 2

We headed out to the bus stop and the bus gods were on our side. We only waited about 10 minutes for a bus. :cool1: This luck stayed with us most of the trip.

Grandma and the Girls waiting for the bus:
Disney2009010.jpg

We had a great bus driver, too bad Disney couldn’t clone him. He did a running commentary on the whole trip. He had us list the 5 fastest rides at Disney…can you guess the fastest? It’s TOT at 90mph!

He also gave out a bunch of secrets to bettering your Buzz Lightyear score! Too bad I didn’t have anything with me to write these all down so I can't remember what any of them were. :confused3

We finally arrived at MK…..now I felt like our vacation had truly begun! :cloud9:

We got through bag check and the turnstiles and stopped to take some pictures.

Disney2009011.jpg

Disney2009014.jpg

Then we headed into the park to see:

Disney2009015.jpg

This is the view I've always wanted to see! I couldn’t believe it was more beautiful than any of the pictures I’ve seen over the years.

We headed straight to The Plaza to check in. When we got there it was right at 7pm. There was a couple in front of us trying to do walk up on the Friday after Thanksgiving Yikes! It was at this point that I said a silent “Thank You” to the TGM and the DIS. I couldn’t believe anyone would go to Disney for Thanksgiving without dining reservations. A couple of years ago I might have been that person :scared1:

We checked in and only had to wait about 10 minutes to get seated, I couldn’t believe it, because the park was packed!

Disney2009019.jpg

Disney2009021.jpg

We had a great meal as usual. The Plaza is a must for us when we’re at MK. I had the club and a chocolate shake, (half of which ended up on our table/floor …..this will be a recurring theme this trip). I swear all I did was try to pour some extra milkshake in my glass, I just forgot to stir it first. So I ended up with this huge clump of ice cream slamming into the top of my glass, then all over the table where it dripped onto the floor. I know our server was probably so pleased with me!:rotfl::rotfl:

My SIL and niece had the club as well and my Mom got the special, which was meatloaf. I swear, they must have brought her half of a meatloaf, it was huge! Amelia had the children’s cheeseburger and cookies and milk for dessert. The cookies looked burnt, I couldn’t believe they served them. We were so full at this point though that we didn’t complain. The service was a bit slow, but the place was crowded and the servers didn’t stop moving the whole time we were there. Our only complaint was it took forever to get our check! So long in fact, DGM took the girls to the bathroom and still made it back before we were done paying.

I have to say, this was our first experience with DDP and we loved it! It was so nice to know that all of our food was already paid for and we could just order whatever looked good.

After dinner we headed for HOP to find seats for SpectroMagic. We found a great spot for my Mom on the side of HOP. It was a small porch with two rocking chairs.
Disney2009027.jpg

We parked her there and still managed to find seats at the rope for the girls, at 8:45pm! I can already see that all of the research is going to pay off big!

Disney2009029.jpg

After Spectro (wonderful parade!) we were planning to head through Fantasyland to get a seat for Wishes on the tommorrowland side of the Castle. Now, I had already given the girls the speech: We’re not going to ride any rides tonight, it’s going to be too crowded. We’re just going to see the parade and fireworks and then we’re going to go crash at the hotel.

Well, what do we see as we head towards Fanstasyland? A 5 minute wait on HM, on the day after Thanksgiving!!! :woohoo: Well, I look at my watch and see that we have 15 minutes until Wishes. So being the planner that I am, I throw the plan out and say “Do you all want to ride?” Of course I get a chorus of “YES”.

Now, this is where I learned that DN is not the thrillrider that I am raising. :lmao: Her questions were all centered on “How fast does it go and are there any big dips or hills?” No we all say and off we go. Well, it wasn’t a 5 minute wait, it was a walkon! We walked right into the stretch room and then into buggies. Now, we had forgotten to warn my DN about some of the inclines and such on HM and when we hit the first one my DD leans out of our buggy and shouts over to my DN in front of us “Rachel are you okay?” We got the “Fine” reply with a laugh. Wow, a 5 minute ride on HM….what a start!

So we get off and head off through Fanstasyland and what do you suppose we see next? A 10 minute wait on Peter Pan!?! It’s 9:55pm so I look at everyone and give them the option of more rides or fireworks. What do they pick????? Rides of course! (Oh well, I’ll get to see fireworks tomorrow night at Epcot). So it’s off to Peter Pan. We actually got to see some of the fireworks as we waited in line at PP, we just had to lean out a bit to see them. The girls wanted to ride with GM, so I got to ride with my SIL and she got this incredible shot on the ride:

Disney2009068.jpg

After we got off PP we headed over to see what the wait was for Dumbo. 5 minutes, on Dumbo! My SIL took the girls on to ride Dumbo since I get motion sick on anything that goes around.

Disney2009073.jpg

It was about 10:20pm at this point. We told the girls they could pick one more ride for the night and then we were headed back to the hotel. They picked Snow White because it was only a 10 min. wait (more like a walk on) vs. 20 min. at Pooh. So we managed to do half of Fantasyland in 35 minutes on the Friday night after Thanksgiving! It was awesome!

We wanted to get out of the park before the 11pm Spectro started, so we headed through the castle with a quick stop for:

Disney2009081.jpg

Then we headed up Main Street and out of the park. We waited about 5 minutes for a bus, and while we got on, we had to stand. I hate standing on the buses, especially for my Mom. If they’re going to have people standing on the buses, they really need to be more careful with they’re driving. Our driver took a couple of turns waaayyy too fast and almost toppled some of the people standing. :scared1:

We made it back to our room about 11:15pm and unpacked. We all collapsed into bed and the lights were out by midnight. It turned out to be a longer first night that I had planned, but we had a wonderful time! :yay:

UP next: Day 2 Epcot, Coral Reef and Chefs Du France!!!!

What a wonderful first day and what great ride mojo!:cool1:

I just about fell out of my chair when you said that you almost bought an Orlando trip at an auction because that is how we ended up going in Dec.

I am glad DDP worked out for you. I agree. It is great to have everything paid for up front.

Can't wait to read more from another Missourian!

You are writing this like a pro Trip Reporter, I can't believe this is your first one. I love the Castle lights............ I hope to return to see them some day soon. You really got lucky with your wait times, I love to see Fantasyland this way.

YAY, I have readers! :woohoo:

Thank you so much for the compliment. I've been lurking here for a long time and I thought about writing a TR for our Jan. 2009 family trip, but I lost my nerve. You never know if anyone's going to be interested in your trip or not (I should know better, judging by the amount of TRs I read :rotfl::rotfl:

I couldn't believe the wait times, not what I had expected for the Friday after Thanksgiving at all!

Thanks Nancy, it was a great first day. THe rides were great, I never expected to find wait times like that right after Thanksgiving....I figured it was going to be at least Sunday before the lines calmed down a bit, so we were all really happy, especially the girls.

That is too funny about the auction. I was soooo tempted, but it was only for the lodging and it was off property and the minimum bid was $800 dollars for 7 nights. 1) I knew I couldn't go for that long and 2) If I was going to stay off property my in-laws have several timeshares I could do much cheaper!

But the idea was born......

Cant wait to read more. :surfweb:popcorn::

Welcome. I hope to get more written tonight or tomorrow.

I'm in. This sounds like it's going to be a fabulous trip. Don't you just love those castle lights? I saw them for the first time my past trip. And I can't believe how short all of your wait times were. Tour Guide Mike is the Man:thumbsup2

Welcome.

It was a marvelous trip! It couldn't have gone any better. The castle lights were beautiful. The pictures don't even do them justice.

I am a total Tour Guide Mike convert! I don't think I'll be able to ever do another trip without his recommended parks! It made such a difference, especially since we weren't able to make rope drops on this trip.

We woke up about 8:30am on and got a fairly slow start. My mom is kind of dictating the pace of this trip. She is still getting her stamina back after a lengthy illness last year and I had promised her that we would not push in the mornings since it takes her a bit to get up and around.

My SIL and DN had stopped at the grocery store on their way in to Orlando and picked up some bananas, granola bars, and snacks. Since we had a lunch reservation at Coral Reef at 11:30am we didn’t want to eat much so we just ate what we had in the room. After we got cleaned up DGM headed down to the gift shop to get the girls gift certificates. We met her in the lobby where she gave the girls their gift cards. They were both very excited.

Disney2009084.jpg

We headed out to the bus stop and only waited about 10 minutes for a bus. We got to Epcot about 10:15am and I headed to get a stroller. I had gone back and forth about this before the trip and finally decided to go ahead and get one, if Amelia didn’t use it my Mom would appreciated having something to lean on as we went through the parks.

I had a good chuckle waiting to get the stroller. The woman in front of me was renting a double stroller and decided to go ahead and do a length of stay rental when she heard she could save a couple of dollars a day by making that purchase. When they told her the total (something like $105) her Mom or MIL had just walked up and she exclaimed: “I could buy a great stroller for that!” The lady looked at her and said well, it’s for the rest of the stay and the M/MIL goes “OH, I thought that was for one day!” The look on her face was so funny.:lmao:

After picking up the stoller I met up with everyone and we took some more pictures:

Disney2009086.jpg

Disney2009089.jpg

We headed for Soarin' first. I was hoping there were still fastpasses left. I took Rachel into the The Land Pavilion to show her how fastpasses work and I got really worried when I saw the standby line was about 120 min! We got to the fastpass machines and got our fastpasses with a return time of 2:10pm! :goodvibes I couldn’t believe it; apparently not many people standing in that line understand how fastpasses work, yeah for us!

We headed back out and met up with everyone over at The Seas. We decided to ride Nemo and then spend sometime in the pavilion before checking in for our lunch at Coral Reef.

Disney2009092.jpg

We headed for Nemo and it was a 10 minute wait!!! I couldn’t believe it. We rode Nemo and spent some time checking out the manatees and dolphins. We also checked out Bruce:

Disney2009095.jpg

By this time it was about 11:15am so we decided to head for Coral Reef. Now, I was very excited and nervous about this reservation due to the widely differing reviews. I’ve always wanted to try this restaurant and have never been able to get a reservation. It was a fluke this time that I managed to get this one, but I was dedicated in checking the reservations everyone other day or so. We checked in and had just enough time to visit the restroom before our buzzer went off. We got a booth on the top tier which was just fine with us. My Mom prefers booths and I didn’t want to be too close to the aquarium because I knew Amelia was going to have a hard time settling down to eat without being right next to the tank.

Our waiter Art was great. He had a huge table next to us so we worried we would get forgotten but he did a great job in keeping up with us. He recommended a smoothie for my DN and when Amelia fell in love with it he brought her a small one. My DSIL and I both had the mahi-mahi, my Mom had the lobster ravioli, my DN had the tilapia and Amelia had the turkey macaroni with lobster bisque.

Disney2009099.jpg

Disney2009101.jpg

It was all good, but Rachel’s tilapia was the best dish on the table. Art even let my DN get the children’s dessert when she didn’t like anything on the adult dessert menu. We all got something different for desert and we agreed that the best was my almond gelato . We talked my DN into trying the wave desert and she liked it, but it was so funny. She kept telling my DSIL “Mom, I can’t have that it has ALCOHOL in it and I’m only 10!” We finally convinced her that it was okay to have a bite but it was too funny!

My mom stopped our waiter on the way out to give him a couple more dollars because she felt she miscalculated the tip and shortchanged him. It was really funny, when she told him why she was giving him the extra tip he said “Oh no, you tipped really well.” I’m beginning to believe that people really don’t tip that well on the dining plan, because all of our servers were really grateful during the whole trip.

After lunch we headed to TT. Our fastpass window had opened at 12:30pm so we got fastpasses for TT which now had a posted wait time of 150min! I couldn’t believe it when our fastpasses where for 5:55pm! I was floored that we were getting these kind of fastpass times with the posted wait times being so long.

At this point Amelia started asking when we were riding more rides so we headed to SE. It was only a 15 minute wait, down from a 35min when we arrived. I have somehow managed to miss this ride on every previous trip to EPCOT. I really enjoyed it and so did everyone else.

After SE we spent a few minutes getting Amelia a popsicle and sunglasses. After that we headed for Figment (a walk on) and spent a bit playing with the computers and music mats.

By that time it was almost time for our Soarin’ fastpasses so we headed back to the Land. By the time we parked the stoller and got inside it was time. The posted standby time was almost 180 minutes. I couldn’t believe anyone would waste that much time standing in line for any ride! We had about a 15 minute wait and then we got the wonderful news, Row 1!!!! YEAH! I can’t believe we got that without even asking. :cool1: It was the first time my DSIL and DN rode Soarin’ so that was great luck. Everyone had a great ride! My DN can’t wait to take my DB (who is a pilot) on this ride. She walked around for the next hour going “Daddy would LOVE that ride.”

After we got off Soarin’ we debated going on The Land boats, but decided not to because DGM was getting really tired. We decided to head back to POP for a rest break.

We had dinner reservations at Chefs du France for 7:15pm and we wanted to ride TT before that. We are also planning to stay for Illuminations tonight so we agreed that heading back to the hotel was the way to go. We headed toward the bus stop and ended up waiting about 20 min. for a bus (This was the longest wait we had the entire stay.) We got back to POP around 3:45pm.

Stay tuned: Dinner and Illuminations

Sounds like you had a great meal at CR. It is fun to be on the dining plan and not worry about meals. It always amazes me that people don't understand, or want to use FP. It sure changes the way many of us tour the parks. It looks like it might have been a chilly day.

I can't wait to read more about your trip.:surfweb: I think an all girls trip would be so much fun!

Great update! It is crazy that people stand in lines for 2-3 hours! I love the rides as much as the next person, but there isn't a single ride in Disney that I would wait 3 hours for:scared1: Thanks for the Coral Reef report. I have an ADR there for next trip, but I can't decide if I'm going to cancel or not because of the reviews. I'm glad to hear you liked it.

Joining in. You're title caught my attention. I just had a girls only trip( me & DD 6) in Oct. & we had the time of our lives, so I can relate. Just like your DM, mine has had health issues & couldn't make this trip, so maybe next time. Sounds like you had a great trip so far, I can't wait to hear more.

Coral Reef was great. I was so glad because of the mixed reviews I had read. We are dining plan converts, but it will definitely depend on who we're traveling with. DDP woudn't work with my son, because he just doesn't eat enough and we wouldn't be able to do that degree of planning with him.

I agree about the FP....I will never tour the parks without them again. It was a little cool, but still felt great to us....it was cold in Missouri when we left. Now, my niece is from SC and she was freezing for a couple of days. :)

I can't wait to read more about your trip.:surfweb: I think an all girls trip would be so much fun!

Thanks. I can't wait to plan another girls trip, it was so relaxing and so much fun!

I just don't understand the wait issue either. Nothing is worth 3hrs of my life in a line for a 5 minute ride! It's amazing to me that people don't do a little research before going on a trip. You pay all that money to go, but you can't spend 1 or 2 hours online or with a book and research? :confused3 That's one of the best parts of a trip to me.

I hope you like Coral Reef. The reviews were so all over the place that I just decided I needed to try it for myself and make my own decision. Glad I did.

Joining in and loving it!

Thanks, and welcome!

That's my next plan, just me and my daughter. I discovered on this trip just how much both of us need some time away sometimes. I'm trying to figure out if I can justifiy a trip this fall, maybe to try the Halloween party. It will depend, because she starts school this fall, and I kind of feel like Jonathan needs to have a trip in there as well, so who knows :confused3

I'm home today with a sick kid, so maybe I'll have a chance to get more writen later today.

Another great update. All I have to say is:
180 min wait time. :scared1::scared1::scared1:
