Where are all the Louisiana WDW lovers? UPDATED 1ST POST WITH DATES!

I have never flown to Orlando from anyplace other than N.O. Int'l. I was told about Allegiant Air and their non-stop flights to Orlando so I have been checking their website frequently. They fly into Sanford, NOT Orlando Int'l, so we would either have to rent a car or pay for the transport to Disney. The flights are limited to only a couple of days a week but if we were to fly with Allegiant in December, the website shows $39.00 each way! Our first flight in 2004 was $39 each way through Southwest but that was before the Magical Express, so we had to pay the $150 incl. tip for the transport. I am wondering if anyone could give an opinion of their own experience using Allegiant, the positive and/or negative aspects of flying with them AND if flying into Sanford (instead of MCO) was such an inconvenience??? Hopefully someone in the Disboard Land will be able to offer some advice. Thanks in advance! Have a magical day!

We did and it's not worth it unless you have only carry on luggage and if you don't care about the possibility of not sitting together. By the time I paid for the tickets, 1 piece of checked in luggage and seat assignments so we could sit together, the price was about the same as Southwest. Plus I drove from Thibodaux! The reason I bought the tickets was I planned a last minute trip and SW was booked solid.
Sanford is a rinky dink airport. There's 1 place that sells food and it's not much better than the snack stands at WDW. You have to walk across the main road to get to the terminal from the car return. It's a frickin' nightmare.
I will hitchhike to WDW before I ever fly Allegiant unless Sanford is improved or Allegiant stops charging for every little thing.

I went through the booking process and the $39 each way becomes $181.00 round trip.
Here's the breakdown from the website:

Trip Price = $78.00
Taxes & Fees = $30.00
Seat Selections = $28.00 (both ways)
Baggage Fee = $30.00
Trip Flex = $15.00

Total Cost $181.00

One idea might be to pack your clothes in a box and ship it Fed ex or UPS. That's what we're doing to save the aggravation of waiting to claim our luggage and then lugging it through both the New Orleans and Orlando airports. People on the DIS do it all the time and have had no problems. That would save $30/ticket which is a pretty good savings.

I am so grateful to have gotten your opinion! The rates seem too good to be true but then with our history of having successfully, and happily, used SW at the same price, I was being enticed. :thanks: Thank you!!! Looks like we are going to drive again this trip. I so much prefer to fly - with the less than two hours transportation time - but the price involved these days makes flying a luxury beyond our means. Obviously we enjoy Disney. We would rather sacrafice the driving vs. flying in lieu of giving up a trip. Having to evacuate for Gustav didn't help matters. I am praying that we can still take the Dec. trip - as our APs run out Dec. 16. I want one more trip on our APs, as it doesn't look like we will be renewing them.

I forgot to add that Allegiant only flys on ceratin days.

I'm glad that I could help. I had already booked our flight for November but with the price of airline tickets, our next vacation we'll probably be driving too. I hope everything works out foryour December trip!

My vacation dates have changed! Due to Gustav using my Dh's vacation time, we won't being going for Mardi Gras 09...We will be going Sept 18th-26th, maybe longer if free dining comes out!

Sorry you're having to change your vacation dates, but that would be great if you can stay longer with free dining!!! :wizard:

Hey guys and gals! Hope everybody's doing okay since all the bad weather. Even the people who lived up here in North Louisiana got some really heavy rains, flooding, downed trees and electrical outages.

It's been a while since I updated the original post. Sorry, got a new job, canceled a trip to WDW, went on a surprise trip to WDW, booked a WDW trip for 2009, etc. etc. etc.

I intend to update the original post over the next couple of days. If anybody has changed their dates, booked another stay, etc., please post so I can update our list.

Oops, forgot to add....please look at the first post before posting. I may have already updated your info! :thumbsup2 I am only on page 16 so it's going to take me a bit to update everything.:surfweb:

Our trip dates are the same:
Nov 19th-29th
We changed from CSR to WL from the 19th-26th.
We're still going to RPR from the 26th-29th.

Whew! It took me a while to update the list in the original post. Please check it out and feel free to update the information. Some people are still missing some information.....name of town, next vacation, resort, etc.

Any new Louisiana people out there that want to join our list?

I am from Amite, La. We have been to disney four times with my family. We stayed at all star movies, and pop century. Next trip will be in December 08, with best friend, and no kids or husband for four nights at All star music.princess:

Hey everyone. We are in Fort Polk La. Army family. We are going again in Nov.09 Thanksgiving week.

Don't know how I've missed this thread.

We live in Monroe, LA. We were in WDW back in June but our trip was a disaster because on day 2 I fell down the stairs in Mexico at EPCOT and broke my leg and arm. I just missed a step and down I went! I spent the rest of the week in FL hospital getting my leg put back together. My family made the best of a bad situation but it pretty much spoiled things for all of us.

So, we are going again the last week of Jan. 09 and the last week of May 09 to try again! We own DVC at Saratoga Springs but will be staying at BCV in Jan. and hope to stay in VWL in May. I want to try all the DVC and am excited about the new Treehouse Villas.

Glad to see all these LA folks on here. Have any of you been to the LA pavillion at the F&W festival at EPCOT? Wish I could be there to check it out!
