when you wish upon a star

do you mean the ship's horn? When you pull out of port in Port Canaveral.....I don't remember it when we left St. Maarten (but I could have been in our room and missed it). When we left St. Thomas, I made a point to be on deck 4 and watch us leave. The horn blew....and then echoed! They blew again, and again a wonderful echo. I know I was in the shower when we left CC, so I don't know about that either.

It blows twice as you leave each port. And a word of warning--you DO NOT want to be by the Outlook bar on Deck 10 when it blows. It's very loud and will scare the pants off of you!

I was so intrigued by the Mickey whistle I had to ask about protocol at the Disney's Navigators Captains Series Q & A. Did you know that when in port the Jr. ship leaving always salutes the Sr. ship. Departing St. Thomas we were the Jr. ship and got into a little dueling whistles with The Norway. It was terriffic and obviously The Magic won!:)

During our stop at Nassau, Holland America Lines Maasdam left port. She blew her horn twice and then the Wonder responded with hers. The Massdam responded by trying to mimic the Wonder's "when you wish upon a star" horn (pretty pathetic sounding) and then the Wonder blew "when you wish upon a star" one last time.

where do you get the file for your PC.

You can download the wave file from 'The Magical Disney Cruise Guide' site, maintained by 'entropy' here:
Guide

It also has a very interesting and complete guide to cruising on DCL, which you can download too.

hope that helps

so what is the jr ship? and what is the sr ship? size?
It's all in the age of the ship. I'm not a buff on this subject, but I do believe we were the youngest of the cruise lines that day. Grand Princess, Vanandam, possibly the sister ship to the Vanandam, The Norway, one of the RCL ships and one other ship besides The Magic were in port that day. It was amazing. The Grand Princess was breath- taking.:)

Hey Laura,
The only cruise that I have been on is on the Grand Princess. She really is a Grand Ship. Truely the best one week with out kids vacation we have had.

I am hoping the Magic will be right up there and rank as the best one week vacation with kids, and I am sure that it will.

BOB,
Your words sum up the possibilities of a good cruise *with* children. You didn't say how old they are, but you may never see your children the whole cruise once they check in to the clubs.;) ;) DH and I traveled sans children and had an absolutely Magical time. Enjoy!!!:)
