When you were a teen.. did you 'cruise' in your car?

Ahhh, cruising, yes we cruised all right. My parents had a 2 dr Ford LTD. The passenger door was broken, if you opened it you might not get it to close again, so my parents had a rope tied to it somehow. We all had to file in through the driver's side. How embarrassing! LOL!! :o :o :o But, fill it with $2 gas and we could cruise ALL night. :p

When I was 15 I would go cruising with friends who had cars. I didn't have a car of my own or a license.

Basically, what this meant for me was I was a spectator and watched the older teens do this little auto mating dance, LOL.

It must have driven the cops in Phoenix wild! I remember so many cars driving up and down Central avenue.

I doubt they allow it any more, this was way back in 1965

Rarely...there was a huge parking lot in our town that everyone cruised but I never really enjoyed it. My bf (now dh) and I would take a couple of loops every now and then but mostly we hung out at the mall where there were tons of security to make sure we didn't cruise but they couldn't stop us from hanging out and having fun.

I did all my 'cruising' after my teen years...

I got my drivers license in 1976 and my dad let me drive his 1963 Oldsmobile Starfire, it was red and it was a convertible. I loved that car and you could fit 8 people in it. We would cruise up and down first street and the Sonic was our turning point. We spent a lot of time at the Drive-In too. They tore the Drive-In down in the early 80's to build a Wal-mart. I don't think the kids around here cruise like we did, but then gas was a whole lot cheaper then too.

We use to cruise the mall and McDonald's! LOL :) I was the first of my friends to have a car. It was a red 1991 Pontiac Grand Prix SE. Oh I loved that car. Until I totaled it. :(

As a teen in the early '70s, that was the major diversion in this area as well. Chattyaholic, that's how DH and I met as well. My girlfriend and I drove around in the family 4-door. DH had a really cool red Mustang. :D :D :D

I am a teen now. We don't really "cruise" that often - there really isn't anywhere to do it. We do sometimes drive down to the beach at night, but we don't drive through the city again and again.

This is Cold Iron, I'm using Poohstyx's computer again.

The movie American Grafitti is a story based on cruisin' San Bernardino, CA in '62. And the movie was filmed on those streets. '62 was about the time I was in HS and San Bernardino was the place to go cruisin'. Going to see that movie was like going back in time for me!

No.
My parents said if they ever caught me cruising I'd lose my keys and there'd be no driving for me. I was so afraid of rear-ending someone or having someone rear-end me that I didn't do it.

I did go with some girlfriends to Galtinburg one night and I had no idea by saying that I'd go that I had agreed to go cruising down Gatlinburg's main street. Because I was in their car & they were showing me respect, they didn't park and get into anyone's car that night:eek: --I couldn't believe they'd be so dumb as to get into a stranger's car. I still can't. That was so unsafe!

I did work with a girl who once went cruising & met a guy at the McDonald's parking lot and married him the next weekend!!!   That marriage lasted a few months and she wondered why!

Not really. And I wasn't allowed to "hang out" in front of Friendly's either. LOL!

Smart move! That happened to my sister with her car once. She was somewhere where she shouldn't have been with her boyfriend my parents didn't like either. She was at a stop light and got rear-ended! I remember the sparks flying over that!!

Yes, I did! Gas was a lot cheaper back in the 60's, too, so we didn't think too much about wasting it! :D
