When you book a room (before AP rate comes out)

I'm confused on this.

In July, we would like to stay at either the Contemporary or Polynesian. I have an AP, so obviousoly, I'll be waiting for an AP discount.

Now, if I book the room now, do I need to wait to pay the balance off UNTIL I check in? Or, do I even need to wait until the AP rates are released to book the room? If I DO pay the entire balance off (without the AP rate being released) will I just get a credit on my credit card for the difference when I call and have the AP rate applied?

In other words, I don't want to wait until May to book for a July trip.

You can book the room now and "IF" an AP rate comes out you can call and have it applied. Just keep in mind that there are only a certain amount of rooms at each resort that are alotted for AP discounts so you have to keep watching or call Disney everyday to see if a rate is available. I'm not sure about paying off the balance. We always just make a deposit and then pay when we check in. Someone else may know the answer to that one. But I would definitely call now for a room in July! That is a very busy month!!!

I usually book a resort with the AAA discount that I can afford. I pay the one night and wait for the AP rates to be release. I book that and then cancel the 1st.

Hi! When we stayed at AKL last July, I booked in January with a AAA rate. I paid the room off over the next few months. In May, when the AP rates came out, I called and they applied the AP discount and gave me a credit of $351.00. I could have had it refunded to my credit card but I chose to have the credit waiting when we got to WDW. It was great! It took the edge off of expenses. We are doing the same this July.

tekmom, never thought of doing it that way before. That's a really neat idea to leave the credit there. That way you don't really have to worry about your room charges, only make sure you don't go over the credit amount by a heap of $$. Good idea. Thanks for sharing!!

Thanks! I was also told that I can call them anytime and put extra money on hold by having them hit my AMEX card by like maybe a $100.00 or whatever...even after I am paid in full. If I have to cancel, they would just refund it then.

I have booked WL for Sept/Oct. thru disney with a package- including room,tickets and dining plan. Are you saying, if I look for better discounts and a "AP" rate comes out they will adjust and change my reservation- which would maybe be I could get the room with a good discount and then I would have to opt out of the dining plan, and then get my park Ap for me, and other tickets for rest of the famiily?
Will they make this adjustment if i see a better rate like AP and decided to buy one?? I know i would have to see the rate and call to them about it.
