When would you reserve DLH or GCH for Christmas?

We're thinking about going December 19-25. When would you reserve a room? Any chance they'll get any less expensive between now and ... some other time? DLH is currently showing $636 a night and the GCH $895 and that's for standard rooms! Yikes.

Even the good neighbor hotels are coming up $500 a night ... is that because it's too early to book or is that just how it is at Christmas?

If money isn't an object, GCH all the way. Sitting on the balcony even if it is a standard room, looking out towards the DLH, (which you can see the monorail go by) is an awesome way to take a break from the crowds!

I always go with booking immediately so I can budget around it and plan appropriately. If I did see lower pricing before my visit, I'd call Guest Services to see what they can do.

With a limited number of Disney-branded rooms, the hot economy, the extended holiday break for many and the large amount of wealth in the immediate area... quite honestly, I wouldn't expect the rates to come down. There are plenty of deals available at alternative properties -- a quick & dirty search yields the Hyatt at $129 & Hilton and Marriott at $139 each (not including resort fees), for example. For those properties, the rates aren't likely to come down. Personally, I'd pick an alternative property that's within my budget and keep monitoring prices at properties I'd rather stay at.
