The doll of the year should be announced on Jan 1st. And once this year ends you would not be able to get the current doll of the year. The year that Marisol was the doll of the year she sold out before the year end of the year, but I think she was the only one that sold out before the year ended.

From what I understand, yes, they will "retire" Kinani. My advice, get her now. DD got her for her bday this summer and has asked for some of her accessories for Christmas, which I've already ordered because I was scared to wait for Cyber Monday to see if there would be any deals.

The girl of the year doll and all her clothes, furniture, and accessories are usually on available thru Dec 31. Of course, the later you wait to order the greater the risk of something being sold out. The new girl of the year is usually unveiled on New Year's Day.
