When was legacy Paper Fastpass introduced and what were the reactions like?

Our first time back since I was a teenager was in 2011. We had 3 day tickets, and by the 3rd day, I was just getting the hang of FP- (had been shut out of TSMM, ToT, and Soarin'). I knew what I would do they next time I came...which happened to be fall 2013. At least then I was able to do FP+ and FP- at the same time.
