When to present TIW card to server?

When to present the TIW card?

  • When you first meet the server, before ordering?

  • After the meal is done but BEFORE the check is printed?

  • After the regular (non-TIW discounted) check is delivered?

I recall someone mentioning they gave their server the TIW card AFTER their meal was served, before the bill was issued.

Someone else waited until the bill was delivered, then gave the TIW card and the bill had to be redone. In this second scenario, the server expressed some annoyance but for those who are math-challenged, that might be the best way to figure out how much to tip?

However, I read some TIW "rules" somewhere that stated the card should be presented upfront. What do you do? Any issues with your method?

BTW, yes, I know I'm way overthinking this.

We have learned to present it before the bill is printed. Otherwise, we have had loooong waits for the the bill to be refigured and reprinted.

I shouldn't be pessimistic, I know. But human nature is what it is. I'm concerned if I give the TIW card before we are served, the service will suffer, b/c the tip is automatically added, right?

That said, out of 10's of meals at WDW, I've only had bad service once. I know that's not typical of Disney.

We usually tell the server when we order since they always ask if we are on a dining plan. We say "No, but we have the TIW card.". Our service is always perfectly fine (well, expect for Narcoossee's, but there was a LOT wrong with that meal).

When I had one in the past (or any similar discount) I present it when they ask if we want dessert or coffee.
That way they can deal with it before they print the check.

If they bring the check before asking if we want dessert or coffee than they are a not a good waiter.

I am closing this thread as it is, in effect, a discussion of Disney's tipping policies, specifically those for TIW members. Any discussion of tipping should be carried out on the Tipping Information Sticky Thread at the top of this board. Please see the first post for guidelines regarding discussion of tipping on the Restaurant boards.
