When to plan trip to see Galaxy's Edge and all new Star Wars attractions?

2020 sounds about right. If I were you, the only way I'd go with Star Wars as a goal in 2019 is if there were some kind of special access package available. (assuming it's even remotely affordable.)

One thing I will say is that if you plan on going close to opening, I would expect to spend the full day JUST in Galaxys Edge and an exhausting amount of time on lines. The thing about 2020, is when in 2020? If SWGE only opens in November of 2019 then the first half of 2020 is still going to be crazy as it is still super new, and then you get into the summer months which are often crowded anyway. So I'd almost say more the fall of 2020 to be safe

I'm super-excited about Star Wars. That said, if I was going to Disney any time in the fall of 2019 or the first half of 2020, I would probably skip HS. I have no desire to experience total chaos.

yeah, I agree. Only way I would consider it is if there was some sort of hard ticketed event early hours or something. And even as things go if they are really crazy for a while that might be the route I go anyway - look for cheaper accommodations off site or cut a day off the trip or something and pay for the hard ticket to have less craziness and guarantee I get on each ride, etc.

(I know I would .. especially for SWGE and supposedly such an immersive land compared to say just getting into Fantasyland early and being able to ride 7DMT, Peter Pan and Winnie the Pooh as many times as I wanted).

Especially if it is something like before park open where there will be a limited number of people in the land as a whole. I mean, I know the two rides are going to get huge lines but part of the appeal of the land is all the alleyways to explore and shops and the CMs as inhabitants of the land and droids and stuff - but if it is should to shoulder people you won't get to enjoy any of that

We are planning on going March of 2020...but this year I will closely follow progress & see if TSL opened on time (for reference), to determine if we need to delay at all.

If we do then we would be looking at late May 2020 or totally fall back to March 2021.

It will still be stupid busy then.

I think that once the Star Wars hotel opening, that will give those guests exclusive access to the land probably after its closed for regular day guests.

Wait to book till it is opened. It will be extremely busy for months afterwards, you would want any problems to be ironed out when you get there, if you aren't going with kids you have a lot more flexibility and should be able to plan easier.

They're doing a Star Wars themed resort. From what I've heard it will be bookable only as a package which includes guaranteed ride access.

The exact details aren't known yet but the assumption is that the stay there would include some time in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with the thinking is it would be during after hours or something so that only people staying in the hotel are in the land at that time ... the hotel will be structured as if it is a space ship and you will "land" on Battu during the stay

From what I have seen staying at the hotel will be structured more like going on a cruise - so everyone will arrive on the same day and stay there for the same amount of time and then leave - and you will have activities and meals included, etc. Thoughts I have seen have it being a 2 day stay with there being some "per person" charge vs just for the room (again, like how a cruise runs) and thoughts are ~$800 per person (but all rumors at this point)

I was planning a trip with my partner this year but we decided to push it back to accommodate the new Star Wars attractions when they open. We are from NZ so this is a massive and expensive trip for us.
I see that Galaxy's Edge is due to open late 2019 - will September 2019 work or is that too early?
Should we aim for 2020 to be safe? We don't want it to be too busy and are flexible with the time of year.

It's killing me but I'm trying to NOT go back to WDW until late 2021.. There are so many new attractions coming ; Toy Story land, Star Wars, TRON, Ratatouille, Marvel land, etc.
All opening at different times so you end up making several return trips over the next three years which is expensive for most people. Like, I remember when we went in 2012 and there was a bunch of construction. Star Wars land was barely getting underway in HS , new restaurants being built in DS, Pandora still walled off but the floating rock could be seen...

Just enough construction and teasers to get you excited but when you're spending 10,000 a trip, trip, you have to choose very carefully the next time you will visit so yo get the most out of it.
I really want to see Pandora but if I decided to wait until "most" of the other expansions were finished and see them all in one trip rather than go back and forth spending three times the amount of $$.

Takes a LOT of patience and willpower but I get my "fix" by going to Disneyland once a year. Disneyland is a lot closer and cheaper for me ( Good Neighbor hotels vs Resort Hotels; 12 hour drive vs $2000 per person in Airfare to get to Orlando).
