When to order DDE?

I've read a lot of different things about the DDE and I'm kind of confused.

I'm planning on buying an AP voucher sometime before my December trip and activating it on December 1, 2006. I would also be purchasing the DDE and would like to be able to use it for December 1. When should I call to order the DDE? And if I don't receive the card before the trip, I understand I can get a confirmation letter. Is that letter all I need? Will they email me the letter or do I have to go to one of the parks to obtain it?

I'm confused. Can someone help me out? Thanks!

Letters for DDE are picked up at Guest Services at EPCOT , only.

If you order the card after November 7th, 2006 - it will be good till December 31, 2007. It can take from 3 -6 weeks to get the DDE card - depending on how busy they are producing it and the US mail. You may run into the holiday (Christmas) card mailings when your DDE card is trying to get to your mail box. But ordering on Nove 7th or after will give you the extra 'month'.

I ordered my DDE card renewal on March 1 and received the card April 8; It took about 5 weeks. I also had an AP voucher which I purchased in February. You can not access the AP section of the WDW web site until you have your voucher ID number. I think I received my AP voucher 10 days after I ordered it. You do have the option of ordering the DDE card by phone but I think you need your AP voucher #. Hope this helps!
