When to line up before the park opens on July 4

I was browsing through The Unofficial Guide for Disneyland 2014 at a bookstore yesterday, and I read that guests should begin lining up about an hour and 20 minutes before park opening on the 4th of July due to increased crowds. However, I've been reading on here for several years that the crowds early morning and afternoon are very manageable on the 4th and don't start building up until mid to late afternoon. I'll be going to DLR on the 4th of July for the first time this year, so I would love some clarification and/or tips regarding this topic!

We spent last year for the 4th there. It was manageable all day. I really didn't see massive crowds like I'm used to at WDW. We hit quite a bit throughout the day. We normally have to stop mid afternoon at WDW due to the massive crowds but never did it at DLR. I believe that we spent most of the day at CA but I know that we did hop over to DL for a while or may have started our day there. The 4th was our first day at DL area.

Really didn't answer your question. I think we were there a little early but not 1.5 hours early.

I heard that the 3rd and the 5th were just as busy, or busier than the 4th.
Does anyone know if this is true?

We can't figure out what to do those days, totally stressed about the crowds!
