When to change the lead guest - traveling with friends

I'm sure I'm overthinking this, but that's half the fun of a DVC membership, no?

I booked two studios for next October. I am currently the lead guest on both.

Is it possible to link both rooms to My Disney Experience account now, start the checkin process and get my room requests in the system, and change the lead guest later? Or will that negate the room requests?

What, how, and when do you like to do this when traveling with friends or family on multiple reservations?

And - just to make sure I understand correctly - if I change the lead guest with MS, I still retain full control of the booking. Correct? I could change the lead guest again, cancel/modify, etc.

I am not sure on the room requests. I usually add them via MS not MDE.

You as the owner can change the lead guest at anytime no matter who the lead guest is. I try to change the lead guests name asap to avoid having 2 reservations in my name. I feel like I remember people saying you shouldn’t have 2 in your name at the same time. But I could be remembering something that didn’t happen.

Pretty sure I’ve also read on the boards, shouldn’t be lead on more that one concurrent reservations or be listed as a guest, for MDE, on another. (Talk of adjust your name to initials or put a different configuration of your name.)

You as the member will maintain all modification & cancellation authority of a reservation.

I fill in the name of one of the persons staying in the villa as the lead guest when I make the reservation, then I make my second reservation for the villa I’m staying in w/ me as lead guest. Later I’ll go back & add the non lead guests to each reservation. That way I don’t have to make a phone call to change it later.
I doubt that MDE will let you have 2 hotel reservations for the same time, so, unless you don’t know who’ll be staying in the second studio, no reason to not make the call to change the lead guest & get the guests sorted correctly & while on the phone tell MS your location requests 🤷‍♀️.

Once you link both to your MDE, the other persona can’t link to theirs without you calling and getting IT involved

They do not fill requests based on when you add them..:so whether you do that now or a month before the trip, your chances are the same.

What I would do is just add the requests via MS for both rooms now, and link the second room when you hafe the guests confirmed.

I hold rooms for the same dates in my name all the time because I don’t always know who is going.

Sometimes they get canceled later and sometimes not.

I think this is mixing two things:

If you have multiple consecutive reservations booked (maybe you want to split stay, maybe you want to try and pickup a night with resale points and merge later, etc) in the same resort and view category you don't want only your name on every single reservation because MS has combined reservations without the owner requesting it in the past. Not common, but it happens.

You don't want two reservations linked to MDE in your name (doesn't matter if you're the lead guest or not) at the same time. It's fine in the planning stages, but once you're onsite it will cause issues with MBs and room access.

Ahh okay thanks

We had 2 villas (2BR) under my lead name at SSR. When I called asking is I needed to change the lead name on the second villa, they said it was unnecessary. They just marked it so they knew who was staying in the villa and left me as lead even though we were staying in the other villa. When we arrived, we stopped by the front desk to make sure our MBs worked on both villas. We arrived first and wanted to stock both villas. We had no trouble with everyone’s MB but I did have them stop at front desk just to be sure.
